thought about that bu was told I would need a much larger cold water tank. i've just got one of these piddly little ones built into the hot water tank which would empty in no time if I pumped the hot water.

last time I looked the hot water came out of the top connection on my cylinder. not easy to block that with sludge.

so if I removed the cabinet with the vents in, there would be no issue to discuss?

i had this problem and it was cold water at mains pressure passing through a shower mixer unit into the hot water system. a non return valve in the hot feed to the shower did the trick.

just to let you know that you were right croydoncorgi. changed the divert valve. boiler running sweet as a nut. thanks mate. i'm sure the old valve is just gunked up and i'm going to clean it up as a spare. any ideas what to dip it in to remove all the stuff that has built up?

if youhave the right kit you can mitre the edge of the tiles. I've never done this myself but know a man who has. You would obviously need an electric tile cutter.
