If you're confident to cut it, you could do so so that the edges are parallel with the walls either side, then put some white filler either side.

I think you may not be getting replies because it really is just a matter of splashing some treatment on, and making sure you keep an eye on them, and keep them dry in future. There is a treatment which I've used which is really easy, and would get round the problems of chemical smells etc...
