    fencing

Replaced two fences in the back garden last year, both had concrete posts set in concrete. Rather than digging them out for no real reason,I fastened new wooden posts to the existing concrete ones and fastened wooden fence to them. Apart from getting good solid posts for little effort, also I...

    Help !! Tile trim problem

What is the angle you are trying to cover ? e.g. if 180 degrees, that would be 3 angles at 60 degreees mitres are an angle of 90 degrees, with two tiles = 45 degrees each so measure the angle and divide by three (or divide by four and double the angle on one of them i.e. 45 + 45 +90 = 180...

    Mazda 626 GLX

Burning oil causes blue smoke - black smoke is fuel (unburnt carbon) as you have discovered. Is your choke controlled by solenoid (electric) or water (heater pipes) ? Sounds like the mechanism is sticking - if fuel consumption is bad when warmed up as well,it's probably permantly sticking...

    ldv convoy king pin.

Not familiar with the LDV,but used to maintain tractors, normally having kingpin/stub axle arrangement -your mechanic sounds perfectly correct. Like all moving parts, they will wear eventually, and greasing was part of routine service. The grease will help lubricate (to reduce friction) and fill...

I Want to Buy Some Tools.

Just to confuse you further, and throw in my opinions,I like JCB kit - I have 18v hammer drill, and it's great (plenty of power for hammer drilling, not too heavy for screwdriving, battery life good,1 hour charge, feels good) Was that impressed with it,I bought the JCB 9" angle grinder as well,did...

    Cutting holes through joists

Or right-angle drill - but as relatively expensive, tends to be trade use (not worth it for a one-off job)

    Lawn Grasses

Very unlikely you will find anything to seperate the two, unless you feel like digging them out  (they are too similar for herbicides to work - they will kill either both or none) And lawn grass is normally a mix of grasses e.g. meadowgrass for soft, lush colour;ryegrasses for durability.

    Power Hose Protection

Why not use a length of ordinary garden hose ? Slit down the length of it,and slip it over the power washer hose. Definitely cheaper :D

    Mixing cement and ratio's

I normally do 5:1 for general mortar,4:1 for pointing And it's worth getting proper plasticizer instead of washing-up liquid,as the salts in it are not ideal to have in your mortar.

    problem with ants

Ex-wife has had lots this year - she has been using powder and gel ant-killers. I had some a couple of years ago - were coming through a crack in the wall from the garden, and setting up base camp underneath the kitchen units.I used a spray ant killer, that you spray anywhere they travel (e.g. -...

renault kangoo van black smoke cominig from exahust

Head gasket failure normally causes white smoke, not black (caused by water getting into the combustion chamber) Black smoke is invariably fuel related (unburnt,as previously said) And blue smoke is normally a sign of worn piston rings/cylinders (letting oil into the combustion chamber)

    FIAT PUNTO 1.2-OVERHEATING?

Asssume when you say "oil gauge/dial" you mean oil pressure and not oil temperature ? If so,a low reading is of more concern than a high one. If you meant water temperature, cars normally run at a slightly higher cooling system temperature when the weather is warmer (do we still have "summer"...

    fan belt

Would suggest NOT spraying the belts - oil is more likely to make belts slip, and some oils will break down some rubber compounds, reducing the life of the belts. Agree with jonny - sounds more likely to be a pulley that you are catching with wd40 when spraying the belts.

    conservatory footings

Personally, would reroute the pipe if practical. If not,for either pipe I would build a bridge over the pipe - put shuttering either side of pipe, and put footings up to that point (100mm either side ?) Then put a lintel or similar over the pipe, and carry on building - what you are trying to...

    Concrete mixes

    I would go for 2:1 stone to sand From 4:2:1 mix (4 aggregate,2 sand,1 cement) Or 6:1 ballast:cement

    devils expanding foam

I currently have a 750 ml can of the devils foam - says it makes 37 litres ! That's quite an expansion rate - I guess your ply must be stronger than the glass :D :D ______________________ moderator post locked to prevent hi jacking

cracks in ceiling after boarding loft

Difficult to say for certain - Did you nail or screw the chipboard ? - if nailed, this could have caused it. Do you intend using the loft for storage,or something else ? - if only storage, unlikely to get worse.

    more part p

This doesn't mean that you can't touch it - it means that unless you can self-certify,then you need to get it inspected. You can still notify BCO and do the work yourself ( then pay them to send someone out to check/test it.)

    Chimineas

Also do them in Machine Mart - if you have one nearby, you can pop in and look at them before you decide to buy (they always seem to look bigger in the pictures than they are when you are stood next to them :) )

Ariston LS603 Shorting fuse - Help??

Not familiar with the machine, but I would guess that whatever "cycle 6" relates to,uses some part of the appliance that is not used on the other cycles, and you have a problem with the wiring on that particular bit.
