    Down lights guidance

Definitely get your self a laser level. They are perfect for making sure you get your lights straight. I have the dewalt DW088 which Screwfix are now doing for £115 which is super cheap.

Recessed Lighting: Fire Rated Or Not?

It’s less common in domestic properties so that may be why the electrician was confused but here’s an example: Imagine you have a ring circuit supplying 10 outlets. Outlet number one is an FCU supplying the central heating boiler. Outlet number eight on the ring is an FCU supplying a waste...

    Shower fire revisited

I think not bothering to do something because it’s difficult is the definition of laziness! I used to work for a company wiring disabled bathroom conversions, and I was installing on average 3 showers a week. I’ve never yet met a property where it wasn’t possible.

    Shower fire revisited

If only the home owners had followed the manufactures instructions and switched off the isolator...

    Shower fire revisited

No that’s not an example that’s just you saying things again and we all know how you like to make things up. Provide one actual example.

    Shower fire revisited

Please provide any other example of a manufacturers instructions being incorrect. If it is a frequent occurrence as you say it is, I’m sure this will be a simple task for you.

    Shower fire revisited

Through the airing cupboard floor to ceiling, into the loft, through the isolator and a drop down the wall to the shower.

    Shower fire revisited

Go away with your manufactures are incorrect nonsense. It’s boring and nobody cares.

    Shower fire revisited

I don’t think the poor training and incompetence of shower isolator installers is really justification to to not install them. I can’t remember ever replacing a shower isolator which I have installed, but then I was trained properly and don’t install the cheapest junk I can lay my hands on...

    Shower fire revisited

For someone so keen on correcting other users “mistakes”, you could at least try and spell my name properly. Which is safer. Pulling an insulated string which is readily available for operation within a second or two of noticing the problem, or trying to run through the house and down the...

    Shower fire

You would use the local isolator to switch off your now on fire shower in an emergency. Well you would if some idiot hadn’t told you that you don’t need an isolator. Even worse than that you’re actually telling people to get rid of isolators.

    Outdoor RCD Socket wont reset

I agree with securespark. First job is to prove that there is still an electricity supply to the socket. It sounds obvious but it won’t reset without one.

    Shower fire

Looks like one of the micro switches has not fully opened when the shower was switched off and has been arcing internally until it got hot enough to go on fire. Yet some idiots on here go around telling people not to have a local shower isolator switch.

    15.5kw 3 phase oven

Yes 15.5kW will use less than 32A per phase so your socket and circuit breaker are sufficient.

Recessed Lighting: Fire Rated Or Not?

I think it’s poorly worded but first floor is referring to the ceiling between the ground floor and first floor, and then roof ceiling is the ceiling between the first floor and the loft. Also I believe their guidance to be incorrect. There is no requirement to install fire rated down lighters...

    Fuse Box Vs CU.

Years and years ago I once went to a job where the customers hall light wasn't working. It was just a knackered BC lampholder, so a nice easy repair. Once I'd swapped it, I asked the customer if she had a lamp for the hall light. She ummed and arred for a bit and came back 5 minutes later with...
