Probably a "how long is a piece of string" question but what kind of price would a new 32amp switch for the hot tub, new switch to replace the broken one and new rcd (is that right) switch be? I've tried googling it but there's a million different types of switches made by hagar....

So that switch should go in where the red switch is? The problem is the people who owned the house before us live abroad and rented it out for years.... Here is a pic of the switch that's just sitting on top of the board.... I presume this should be where the red switch is?? Why would someone take this out?? Either broken or trying to "override" a circuit breaker?? Just guessing as I have little electrical knowledge....

Ok..... I've got a friend helping me tomorrow..... Both of us are (fairly) young and (reasonably) fit so I'm hoping by lunchtime I should know if it is do-able without hiring a digger.... How would you remove the turf?? Cut strips with spade and pull them up like pulling a plaster off??

Thanks for the reply..... I wasn't planning on stripping the turf or using a digger.... As I only really need to take about 8 inches from one side and add that 8 inches to the other side u was planning on using rake, fork and spade.... Is this possible or not? Thanks

Hi..... After a little advice please... Bought a new place around six months ago and just finished renovating ground floor and going to start the garden..... It's not too big, about 8 meters long by 25 meters wide. There's a slope at the moment, nothing major, probably a drop of around 1/2 meter...

Erm.... Not sure, a totally uneducated guess... Maybe because the problem was with the neutral but the live was still getting to it? I'm not sure

Final update..... It's sorted..... It turned out there was about 15cm extra cable but it had been clipped to the ceiling baton, the sparky pulled it through and sorted it...... A genuine thanks to all for your input...

If anyone is still happy to give advice here.... The electrician is giving me the run around.... We have family coming over 200 miles for the weekend and I could really do with the lights working by then..... I'm happy to replace this wire myself but there is literally no room at the ceiling...

Yeah I think it is the neutrals that have caused it..... The sparky is comin over soon.... I'm not confident replacing the cable and I don't want to just bang a new fitting on with the wire looking like that.... Thanks for the replies everyone.... Been a big help, I'm about halfway through doing...
