    Floating shelves

Depends on what wood it was? If it's oak. I'd say it's not too bad. Especially seeing your in London? What thickness are the shelves? We did some oak shelves, supply only to a fella the other day. 2 of them at around 650x350x20 and 6 small strips of 10mmx80mmx2m and it came to nearly £400...

    Celotex boards under timber floor.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'd perhaps just try that and see. As i imagine you'll still want the airflow to stop rising damp. I've just googled this stuff for gaps: http://www.draughtex.co.uk/standard-40m-roll/?fGB=true&gclid=CPDyztCuitICFQONGwodM6gMPg Might find a cheaper version on eBay...

    Shared cocks

I'm guessing you mean the stop tap in the road? If so, me and two of my neighbours have the same thing. But this is very common. We share one mains stop tap. The water meter will measure the water he consumes, once it T's off into his property, therefore seperating it from yours.

Reinforcing loft floor to board out and add insulation

Here's what I'm going to do, with mine. Very similar to yours. Run 3x2 timbers in the opposite direction to your existing 1.5"x4" timbers (wall to wall) At around 400 centers. Screw them into the existing timbers where they meet. Make sure the 400 centers work with your floor boards/loft chip...

What to lay down side of house

To actually attack the problem at the source, and in my opinion the easiest way. (Which I did at my house). Is to: -firstly dig out the whole area to below the DPC. Bare in mind the thickness of what your replacing it with. I.e. 3" flags,1.5" cement bed, 2" of MOT. Totalling 6.5" (or perhaps in...

    Heat damaged granite hearth

Hi there, I'm a stonemason. But I don't deal in granite. When you say hearth do you mean Fire back? A hearth is traditionally laid on the floor under the fire. (This is for imaginary purposes not to be a smart arse lol). Granite from my experience is a tricky one once it has burnt. I would start...

    Floor screed, insulation issue

hi all, I've potentially made a bit of a mistake. I've screeded my floor throughout the downstairs of my house, and added underfloor etc. I've put in edge insulation all the way around the building perimeter, in order to minimise thermal bridges. So, here's the issue. I've put in 2" insulation...
