How to wire a fused block after trip

Robert Dyas (might be on a nearby high street) usually have fusewire on sale. To this unskilled eye, the meter looks just like the one British Gas fitted for my flat (a few years ago) supposedly as part of the Smart Meter programme.

    replacement MCB's

Living down to my moniker, might the quote mean that (in roughly 2 years time) this setup would no longer be acceptable (anywhere in the EU).

Integrated appliance - choice of unfused plug on fised spur

You could consider using IEC connectors, e.g. https://www.cricklewoodelectronics.com/Mains-Connectors-IEC-Euro.html but I haven't the foggiest as to how practical this is and, I believe, they're rated at less than 13A (maybe 10A).

    CFL or LED

There are some LEDs which give 100 degrees (or more) of light, such as: http://www.alarmsandlightbulbs.co.uk/gu10-light-bulb-24-smd-340-lumen-x-1-bulb-282-p.asp I'm sure plenty more are available but I do understand JohnBoy's point that they're not always too easy to find.

Total novice - changing a two way light switch

When JohnD said "bottom right yellow to the third from right bottom", I believe he meant "third from left bottom".

Why does a condensing boiler create a plume

I can't help feeling that this'll get more accurate answers from "Plumbing and Central Heating", but ... You're right that not all the water is condensed internally, that's because the temperature of the flue gases is their dew-point, i.e. the air is holding as much water vapour as it possibly...

    DIY Rainwater Harvesting ?

The Centre for Alternative Technology (in Machynlleth, Wales) reckons that it's pretty difficult to justify rainwater harvesting to flush domestic toilets: http://info.cat.org.uk/questions/water-and-sewage/can-i-flush-my-toilet-rainwater Cheers, Graham

The plug of a dishwasher starts to melt !

My personal feelings (I'm not a sparky): 1) Yes, get a qualified engineer to change the socket and check the cable inside the wall at the same time. 2) No need to change the flex. Judging by kingdech's photo 7 at 1:39 p.m. on Sunday, the flex is reasonably long. So cut the flex a few inches from...

Redland 49 roof tile redesign ?

Thanks Nige F, it looks as though I ought to try the 49s.

Redland 49 roof tile redesign ?

I live in a Victorian house which many years ago (>30) was re-roofed using Redland 49 tiles. 2 tiles are cracked and I'd like to replace them although there's no obvious sign of a leak. Greenjackets say "This tile has been improved" (link...

Does thin copper pipework prevent radiators from achieving their rated BTU output?

Boringoldcodger said "throw TBSE at a search engine". Whoops, I've found out that throwing: TBOE radiator connection is a better idea. From that I got link...

Does thin copper pipework prevent radiators from achieving their rated BTU output?

I know this doesn't answer any of your questions, but I've heard that when rad manufacturers do their measurements they use TBSE (Top Bottom Same End) connections, i.e. both flow (at Top) and return (at Bottom) on the left or both on the right. If you throw TBSE at a search engine and then spend...

    Low energy bulbs <0.5W

A few years ago I bought an Osram 0.3W LED / 12W CFL B22 combined lamp (switch it on and the LED comes on, switch off and back on a few seconds later and CFL comes on), the CFL is claimed to be warm white, but no claim about LED whiteness. A few months later I saw they were being remaindered so...

Need a timer for the lights in the stairs of a four storey building

I can't help wondering how the switching worked previously, if it was dusk to dawn then I'd agree with using LED 24/7 . But if it was a case of, e.g., flicking a retractive (aka momentary) switch and then the lights turned themselves off after a few minutes then I'd consider trying to redo that...

    Tiny bathroom ideas?

I've very little DIY experience, I'm OK at thinking about things but pretty useless at actually doing them (and foreseeing the inevitable problems). If the wall, which you're thinking of knocking down, is brick (or stands any chance of supporting stuff above) then I'd leave it alone. Also I...

    Tiny bathroom ideas?

Another suggestion is to swap the bath and basin round but use, e.g., http://www.sanctuary-bathrooms.co.uk/baths/single-ended-baths/carron-quantum-space-saver-5mm-single-ended-bath.html as the bath (again this'd probably need an outward opening door). Hopefully the bath would have narrowed...

    Tiny bathroom ideas?

More questions than suggestions. What's the big waste pipe that's next to the basin, is it the soil stack for other flat(s) ? If so could you, as PBOD suggests, connect your toilet to that ? Then put the basin where the (I assume) radiator is, and the radiator where the toilet is. Install a...
