    Just Some Pictures

A couple of years ago our work had a recall from crompton about the capacitors in their fittings melting/burning, the brand affected were labelled as DNA, we ended up getting sent a load of replacement capacitors ( different brand) as we were finding them popping everywhere and were advised to...

    Trade test

Even when folk pass there test they still have a lot to learn IMO. Even a seasoned spark will learn something new from time to time. Some companies don't have a wide scope of work resulting in a lack of experience on the tools, tradesmen not got time/cant be arsed to teach the boys properly...

    Trade test

The FICA replaced the AM2 around 15 years ago ( I think). Your best bet is to contact the SJIB or your training officer if you were doing your apprenticeship through them, maybe they can get you another start elsewhere? Colleges do a 'pre' FICA course, where the lecturer talks you through the...

    bathroom light cord gone stiff

I'm sure you can buy those internal switches from B&Q, you could remove the fitting and take out the switch and then see if you can find a replacement. It will no doubt be something like this (first one i found, there may be others) :-...

Upstairs Light Not working : help please!

If you were finding the switch a bit temperemental I'd have a look in there first, probably a gubbed switch or loose connection at the switch or light. Turn the power off and check connections are sound and that you're getting continuity through the switch.

My Knipex and Elliot Lucas have served me well over the years and are still going strong. I presume you mean side cutters/snips?

    RPP-How cheap is it?

I may be wrong but I think they may be CEF ( city electrical factors) brand of sockets ( hopefully someone may know better) I've never used them, I presume they're on the cheap side of accessories. You could fit a better brand of socket, MK or Crabtree. Although since Crabtree changed the...

    Consumer unit neutral bar help.

Yep you will need to have the neutrals on the corresponding sides. The RCD is detecting an imbalance and therefore tripping. Thats presuming everything else you have done is correct......

    fault finder

Its highly unlikely the MCB's at fault. Unplug everything, reset RCD and then plug in things one at a time to see if the RCD trips. Chances are its an appliance thats at fault.

    9" square light

That doesn't really narrow it down. Do you have the make/model? You'd probably be aswell going to wholesalers/screwfix etc and find a similar fitting and just replace it if its just a standard fitting, i.e. nothing fancy or expensive.

Reverse polarity in shower on a PIR?

Hi all, just a quick query. I was discussing the consequences of reverse polarity in a shower with a work mate today. To set the scene, the mains "IN" at the 45A shower switch is connected correctly but the "Load" side is connected in reverse polarity. When debating if/when/how the fault would...

Is 'Steeple' a viable brand for consumer units?

I've never heard of it TBH. Branded consumer units are very reasonably priced these days so if it were me I'd spend the extra few £ and get a decent one, Crabtree, Merlin(schnider), MK, Wylex etc. Atleast in future you know you'll still be able to get replacement parts. Steeple may be a good...

No power to ring main sockets

Have you tried resetting your main switch, the RCD may have tripped when you were altering the wiring due neutral/earth short. Some RCD's need to be turned off then on if they trip and are not always fully down if they trip- this is presuming you have an RCD. Other than that have you anything...

    wall mount tv, hide wires

Sounds fine. You could disconnect the ariel cable from the outlet plate and bring it directly into the back of the tv, hopefully the cable is coming down the way and you can pull it up.
