    Damp ingress after repointing.

Posh pots! Nicely capped, however some would use sealant to stick down the caps, as sometimes water can trickle in if it's not a tight fit. Not easy to tell but looks like no oversail on the inside, the big mortar fillet on the inside of the parapet wall is sus, and could be lacking soakers...

    Dpc question

You don't need two DPMs, is this house built in a river? The weight of concrete will push the dpm against the wall, as long as it meets the dpc you'll be alright with a mastic bead behind it.

    Dpc question

Your chosen mastic will work ok, What's going over the sand? Bring the membrane up the wall to meet the FFL, preferably slightly above it. Plaster/plasterboard/skirting will hide it anyway.

Insulating curved timber frame bay in 1935 art deco house

    1) from your description, sounds like you will struggle to achieve full coverage and may end up with cold spots. 2) you can score the back of the boards to make it 'bend' into the space. Not ideal as you will have cold spots where the cuts are. 3) Close that gap off, fill it with insulation...

    Dpc question

Short answer, yes. You could also cut a wide strip of dpm and Leave it hanging out, until such time you put the main dpm in and tape them together. Other option is to black jack the wall just below the dpc and stick the dpm against it.

    How do you make tea?

Firstly give the bag a little shake...then pull your trousers up, wash hands, go into the kitchen and put kettle on (to see if it fits) ((fresh water from the Brita filter)), give the bag a little shake, (to remove all that dust) as soon as you hear the click, start pouring, fill mug to ¾" below...

Best way to stop water ingress at this step into garage?

It looks as though the slabs are level with the top of that concrete step? You could perhaps use one of these laid flat to make a concrete sill. Keep it full length so it extends past the opening and notch it around the wall panels. Bed it on mortar but scrape out the edges so you can get a...

Insulating under floorboards - I could try myself?

You'll probably figure it out as you go, far easier than we can from a description. Pallet buster can be pretty destructive. You'll need to carefully work your way along each board in turn. Once you've a few out of the way, you can tap the bottom of a board from underneath with a hammer to...

    insulation under floorboards

Read through 'similar threads' below to learn about insulating a subfloor. Insulation is a good idea, the sanded floorboard thing, less so. Some people like it but it will make room colder, noisier, and you will create ridiculous amounts of dust in the process. If you have t&g boards it will...

Insulating under floorboards - I could try myself?

Noggins: you don't want any plywood butting up to another piece without support underneath. So add strips of timber, minimum 2x2 between the joists to support these edges. Not critical with t&g plywood as the boards lock into each other. Don't mix t&g with ply, keep it the same throughout...

Insulating under floorboards - I could try myself?

I'm with the tiler, tiles onto XPS onto floorboards may crack. If you can get the old boards up intact, then reuse them and put 6mm cement board on top. You'll have have to ease them up gently. A wide bolster/chisel, old wood chisel/pry bar (all 3 in combination!) nail bar/claw hammer, and a...
