Hi

I have a victorian end of terrace and am thinking about taking up the carpet in the lounge/diner and having sanded floorboards. Now i don't know the state of the boards under the carpet but if some of them are 'bad' can i remove boards from an upstairs bedroom (where there will still be carpet) and swap them over? Also i imagine that in winter this could be very cold on the feet etc, is there a way to insulate under the boards to stop the draught? I thought about putting loft type insulation under them but thought this may stop air circuating leading to damp issues?

thanks

Read through 'similar threads' below to learn about insulating a subfloor.
Insulation is a good idea, the sanded floorboard thing, less so. Some people like it but it will make room colder, noisier, and you will create ridiculous amounts of dust in the process.
If you have t&g boards it will look nicer, but plain boards will have gaps between that will trap dust and dirt, so you'll need to fill them, then some sort of stain or coating to protect it.

If you really like the wood floor look, then cover or replace it with a pre finished real wood or engineered (better) floor.
