Insulation advice for retaining floorboards?

We live in a Victorian terraced house.
In parts (esp. the lounge, it's cold).
My family keep saying, "Get carpet, it will be warmer."
I agree, but I'd hate to lose the floorboards look.

What alternative insulation methods are there that would allow us to be warmer and to retain the Victorian aesthetic?
