Hello All, I'm designing the layout on paper of my on suite bathroom. Can an electric towel heater to IP21 be installed in zone 2? The wall where I would like to site it is 60cm away from the shower (zone3), but the heater would stick out 10cm into Zone 2. The fused spur on 30mA RCD...

Extract Fan location. 2 methods, which is best?

Thanks noseall, Sounds like the best and tidy option, but a bit advanced for my DIY and budget now the roof is completed. Fitting the vent into the soffit would be the easiest for me, but I would rather spend more effort going through the wall if its the best option.

Hello All, its the semi-self builder again. The next job on my list is to install an extract fan over the shower area. The instructions give two options. Fitting through a wall using the cover with three flaps, or using the additional grill to come out from under the soffit (I...

    Plasterboard Ceiling Layout

Thanks for yor reply's Fred and Richard, The blockwork will be plastered as well as the plasterboard, and I have been told that this will be around 10-12mm thick on the walls. I don't have the actual measurements on me, but the board was only going to be just off the joist, so I could allow...

    Door Lining Choice?

Hello All, I have a 100mm blockwork wall that I need to put a door liner into. I'm semi-self building. At B&Q, they had two versions 108mm and 131mm. This really confused me as to what I would need. My plasterer told me to allow 10-12mm for depth on electrical sockets etc, so do I need...

Outside light fittings specify fused spur?

good point. I guess I could have the fused spur somewhere else, and still use the light switches as I had planned. (I have a four way switch for Hall and outside lighting) two fused spurs in a row + another switch would look a bit OTT.

Outside light fittings specify fused spur?

Hello all, thanks for your comments. After speaking to a couple of local electricians over the weekend who install and certify, the opinion is that the lights will be satisfactory on the normal lighting circuit, and that Homebase may just be over specifying to cover themselves. any thoughts...

Length of Plasterboard screws for 12.5mm board + help

I have also got a 3m stud wall to construct on the 1st floor. Is it normal to fit the ceiling first in the whole area, and then construct the wall, or is it best to construct the wall first? (My DIY books explain how to build the wall, but never is much help with the order in which things...
