    Bathroom Zoning / IP65 question

I was intending to RCD protect anyway, as I havent got the cabling 50mm deep in the walls etc... Looks like I just need a couple of IP65 units for next to the shower cubicle then. I'm obviously looking in the wrong place (screwfix) if its possible to get them for £4 each. Thanks for the...

    Bathroom Zoning / IP65 question

I'm just selecting some lights to be fitted in my bathroom, and have decided to go for some downlighters, as due to the ceiling being an odd shape these will give the best light. Some of the ones I want to put in, will be above the window, and far away from any possible sources of water, or...

    Boarding a room

It's 3x2 CLS, which isn't really 3x2 when you measure it. Bit annoying really. The ceiling isn't that big, so i might just stick a couple of battens on there, got a few left over from tiling the roof on the workshop that will be ideal for the job. Thanks

    Boarding a room

The room will be tiled to full height, no skirting or cornice. I'm using aquapanel behind the shower. If i had the all of the gap at the bottom, the board would be above the stud so not possible to screw to the studwork.

    Boarding a room

I'm gonna have a go boarding my ensuite myself, but got a couple of questions. Would you do the walls or ceiling first? The height from floor to ceiling binders, is approx 2.47m, the timber i've used for the studwork is approx 37mm, in height. Now the plasterboards are 2.4m, so should i...

Aquapanel or moisture resistant board behind shower?

Thanks for that Richard. I'll give it a go, as the walls are all new, they're nice and straight and flat. The only tricky bit might be around the ceiling/dormer window, just lots of cuts to do. The room isn't too small to work in, so it shouldnt be too bad. Are there any particular...

Aquapanel or moisture resistant board behind shower?

After reading some comments from yourself in another thread i'm now considering doing it myself. I didnt realise it was ok to tile straight onto plasterboard without skimming first. In which case I could dry line it myself, just get the ceiling skimmed. My only concern is how easy it is to...

Aquapanel or moisture resistant board behind shower?

I'm not at the stage where I want my ensuite plastering, had a couple of quotes so far, one is using moisture resistant board on all the room, taping the joints, no skim and aqua panel behind the shower, that comes in at £420, the other is using mositure resistant board behind the shower and...

    Workshop update

A little while ago I posed some pictures of the start of my workshop. Its now almost finished, so I thought it time for an update: As all the brickwork was finished, I painted the inside and the floor, and had my lathe dropped into place: So next up, it was time to...

    covered manhole

If you can get to either end of the pipe you could get a CCTV survey done to check if the manhole is still there.

Conceala 2 Cistern - Dual flush confusion

I just had what the man in the shop recomended. I wanted the Grohe flush plate as it matched some other items i'm using in the bathroom, and then I just asked for a cistern to go with it. I'll take it back tomorrow and swap the cistern then. Thanks

Conceala 2 Cistern - Dual flush confusion

I'm a bit confused. I've recently bought a Conceala 2 cistern (S362267) the man in the shop said it was a dual flush cistern. I also purchased a Grohe dual flush plate (38506000) for the above cistern. Its just arrived and now after looking at it I can't quite work out if it really is dual...

metal cable cover under plaster - how to fix?

Does it matter if you use PVC capping behind the plasterboard? Thats what i've been using so far. I got some hard capping nails from screwfix, they're basically a sharp, hardened nail with a washer on to retain the capping, seem to work ok, but won't go into brick, so i've just put them into...

    Notching joist for a pipe

This is what i'm trying to do: As you can see in this pic there is a towel rail mounted on the stud wall, I'd like to run the pipes to this inside the wall, so there won't be any on show under the towel rail. The sole of the stud wall is sitting ontop of the double joist you can see...

    Notching joist for a pipe

I need to notch a joist for a couple of 15mm rad pipes, I've found lots of info about notching the top of the joist but can't find anything about notching the bottom, which is where I need to run my pipe, is this ok, or against building regs? Thanks

Towel rail pipes in stud wall

Its a new extension, I have read about double joists before being used, but I agree, it does seem a bit OTT, wish i'd have put the wall the other side of them now

Towel rail pipes in stud wall

Ah ok, might do that then, only downside is i've already fixed the sole plate etc... and floor boards etc.. are under it. I think its standard practice for a double joist under a stud wall, not quite sure why i've got a triple tho, maybe the chippy had a bit of wood spare
