    Confused over water pressure numbers

Dilalio - credit where due. You are correct, all of the cold water in the house barring the kitchen tap is pumped from the tank. I am hoping it is clean! It is difficult to get to as the "loft" space is tiny (used to be a bungalow so there isn't really a loft since they converted the roof...

Need to move cooker switch - Part P?

I could leave the switch but it will be behind a fridge, which I doubt is acceptable. It was reading a bit about Safe Zones that made me think that I had to cover the cable run in the plaster with metal capping. I need to read more.

Need to move cooker switch - Part P?

Thanks again Simon. I guess my understanding of Part P and building regs in general was that there were two categories: 1) You had to let the authorities know 2) you could do whatever you liked to your own home and no one needed to be notified no matter if you were totally incompetent and burnt...

Need to move cooker switch - Part P?

Thanks Simon. My first answer to how to test it was switch the oven on! Clearly I don't have "the right knowledge or equipment" as what is there to test beyond that? And what certification is needed if it is not Part P notifiable?

Need to move cooker switch - Part P?

I need to: Blank off existing switch - fitting sufficiently rated connector strips (45A?) Extend the existing cable using a sufficently rated wall mounted junction box. Cable will run under floorboards. At new cooker position run cable up wall to new cooker switch. Cable to be plastered over...

    Confused over water pressure numbers

I will investigate further but the tank filling is quite loud. Plus when you flush the toilets the pump comes on and remains on for the duration of the cistern fill. Unless the pump is pumping water up to the tank but I don't think it is as when the tank is filling the pump is off. Sounds like...

    Confused over water pressure numbers

But that would mean that every time we flush the toilet then the tank in the loft would fill and it doesn't.

    Confused over water pressure numbers

Thanks to all and sorry this meandered off track. Due to your combined wisdom I now am clearer about the required tap. Confused by the system here though!

    Confused over water pressure numbers

See ,this is what happens when you drink cold water from a tank ,the ability to see straight and think clearly is severely affected:LOL::LOL::LOL: No, it's the beer. The missus is away.....

    Confused over water pressure numbers

Just confirmed that the only time the tank in the loft fills is when I run hot water in the bath downstairs. If I run hot or cold taps anywhere in the house the pump comes on but the loft tank is not affected. If I flush toilets the pump comes on but the tank is not affected. If I shower...

    Confused over water pressure numbers

No, the tank is only used to fill the cylinder. I know because if I run hot I hear the tank filling up but it doesn't if I run cold.

    Confused over water pressure numbers

Yes, it is fine as long as there is no other non-pumped cold taps running. This tap, the garden and the garage are the only unpumped colds in the house. So I expect the new tap to perform the same but I don't know which pressure type to get (and don't know what the current one is). As the LP...

    Confused over water pressure numbers

Are you saying that pumped water shouldn't be drunk? Both the downstairs and upstairs bathrooms here have the cold pumped.

    Confused over water pressure numbers

Okay, let's forget about the hot pressure - I am officially a numpty: the hot IS pumped and I am getting 3.6Bar now that I have fitted the gauge properly! Cold is a different story: Pressure 1.3 Turn on tap in garage (which is directly off the main as it enters the property and before...

    Confused over water pressure numbers

Thanks Terry. Yes. I understand that but am puzzled why the cold feed into the cylinder needs to be from a tank rather than the main,

    Confused over water pressure numbers

Thanks guys. Now I know that it is static pressure I am measuring but don't know if that is what the tap makers refer to! This is the gauge I am using: http://amzn.eu/d/2yJnM0v and i can connect it "properly" to the garden tap which comes off the pipework for the kitchen tap. This gives the...

    Confused over water pressure numbers

This started because I need to buy new kitchen tap and need to work out pressure first. I got a pressure gauge and stuck it on the kitchen mixer tap with a rubber adaptor. This showed me: Cold 1.3 Bar, Hot 1.9 Bar. Now here is the puzzle: until I measured it I believed that I had very low...

Run a waste pipe above a CU?

Thanks both. Yep, I intend to have a continous run above the CU, no joins.
