    Tread depth - new tyres

Normal road tyres have 8mm from new and winter tyres have 9mm as you're expected to replace them before you get to 1.6mm so therefore the extra 1mm is to cover this

Estimate for small wall required - Huddersfield

I wouldn't expect to need a skip as the loose stones i would use elsewhere in the garden (i'd remove these prior) and anything dug up would be left between the wall/ sleepers and the base/ drive under the flags/ decking The easiest option if a realistic price wasn't met would be to lay sleepers...

Estimate for small wall required - Huddersfield

I'm not sure where to post as i've tried check a trade several times for various jobs and no-one ever gets back to me. I'm wanting a small wall building but may consider sleepers if it's feasible - approx 38ft long and 2 ft high to separate the lawn from the edge of the drive/ garage base. I'd...

    Painting concrete fence posts

Thanks for the replies The posts haven't been painted before I was thinking of going for a buff colour so they aren't too bright but nothing else in the garden is that colour so they may look odd? the garage door next to the drive/ posts is brilliant white so white posts would match that :) I...

    Painting concrete fence posts

I'm going to be painting the concrete fence posts and barge boards next week (white) as they're looking a little sad due to years of creosote being splashed on the when painting the fence panels :( Does anyone have a recomendation for something cheapish that will go cover with 1 coat ideally...

    Composite driveway gates

I'm trying to find a supplier/ fitter of composite driveway gates as the wooden ones i have now are past their best. I'm hoping the composite will be lighter and the ones i've seen so far are made with galvanised/ powdercoated steel frames so should last a long time. Is there anyone on here who...

    PIR floodlight stays on

I think it's 40w We have 3 altogether, 1 at the side door, 1 at the back of the house and this above the garage door - maybe i should get someone to replace all 3 with LED ones? I have considered fitting a LED non pir to the garage and having it through a remote box so i can switch it on...

    PIR floodlight stays on

We have a PIR floodlight on the garage which was fitted several years ago (halogen) The past few weeks it's been hit and miss when walking up to it whether it comes on or not but waving my hand directly in front of the sensor it would come on. Today it came on for no reason -it was dark but...

    Remote control outdoor light

I have a pir floodlight for the driveway but want to add another 1 or 2 outdoor lights on the front of the garage. I'd like these to be remote controlled so i can switch them on when i get to the top of the drive in the dark and also when i leave the house in the morning. I've found what i think...

    Light switch issue

The cable runs from the next light unit (linked) and into the junction box. I checked the other junction boxes to check wiring colours and connected the 2 wires from the light the same. Just seems strange the other light switch works and this 1 doesn't now?

    Light switch issue

I have several LED strip lights in the garage which are connected to 2 switches - 1 at the front door and 1 at the back next to a side door. I fitted a new light to a pre wired cable (sparky added this when he fitted the other lights) and now the switch at the front doesn't work but the switch...

    Battern strip lights to LED

The new lights arrived today - very slim so wont be knocked when fitted to the walls :) The wires inside are very thin (like in a car wiring loom) whereas the wiring in the garage is normal household type so should i use block connectors to join them still?

    Battern strip lights to LED

Thanks for the reply Had a look inside the old light (which has a metal case) and the wiring into it has 3 wires which go into black connectors with just 2 coming out to connect to the light unit. With the new lights being all plastic i'll use the same 2 wires from the wiring to power the light...

    Battern strip lights to LED

I had my detached garage wired a few years ago so it has it's own fuse box, several double sockets and 5 strip/battern lights. I found the light output wasn't great for when i'm detailing in the garage so changed the tubes to led ones which are a lot better. I'm not having a new garage door...
