Advice - First Fix Ring main or Radial?

Sounds like a sensible arrangement Harry. Whether Ring and/or Radial we often do such things. Sometimes we might cover the "most power" area with two or more circuits and sometimes those circuits might or might not contain other outlets in other rooms or part of - helps somtimes keep the number...

    Beok Thermostat Dry Contact

Once upon a day it was a not uncommon practice to wire a programmer from the mains and likewise the output( heating and/or cooling loads) . However some then started to require voltage free contacts (sometimes called dry contacts) therefore if mains output was actually required the link was put...

    Beok Thermostat Dry Contact

There should be a Destruction Manual with it. That should tell you all you need to know including what they actually mean by "Dry Contact", I would tend to assume it is a set of contacts which changes state from Closed to Open etc dependant upon temperature and have no voltage present iny any...

    Unknown Connector - help please?

Not having read the spec I have no idea whether that is so or not so. It is not something I would have considered one way or the other.

External garage electricity wrongly connected to neighbours supply

Yup, without a load an NE short would not cause an RCD to trip. Once a load is running then once the N to L balance gets to the threshold of an RCD trip current then yes it will trip. If that RCD short is at or near zero ohms the using a 30mA it would be in the region above 15mA , if that...

Is this article a Red Haddock ???

Just to add,as with nearly all of the conspiracy theories and "Scam" or "Fake News" type advertising there is usually a nugget of truth in there somewhere. Whether that nugget is one paragraph or one sentence or one word, it tends to be that which some readers latch onto then take everything...

Is this article a Red Haddock ???

Excellent run down of what is what there by Flameport. I find myself pretty much in agreement with what he has said.

Is this article a Red Haddock ???

A was not even considering using these devices at all, not even from a trusted wholesaler, hence the title of my thread!

Advice - First Fix Ring main or Radial?

Although Flameport and I have opposing views for Ring Final Circuits in general I think we can both agree with this part of his statement. My own opinion is that it a "Horses for Courses" sort of thing and depending upon all circumstances either a Ring or a Radial might be the most appropriate...

Is this article a Red Haddock ???

Flameport, I was thinking that there might be just a small nugget of truth in this part of the statement - not neccasraly all of that little bit of the statement though:- Edison pushed for DC power — smooth, steady electricity that ran efficiently through devices. Tesla promoted AC power —...

External garage electricity wrongly connected to neighbours supply

Well that is certainly not impossible with some firms. I have known quite a few firms (Including some large well known firms too) doing things that are, in my humble opinion, at least slightly or sometimetimes very dishonest, aparently they seem to think that they have the upper hand in size and...

External garage electricity wrongly connected to neighbours supply

Yes indeed but there are some numpties doing all sorts of works sometimes. Ive seen quite a few horrors on new builds. A builder/main contractor employees other to do works for the cheapest prices eventually they walk and new contractors come in and the cycle goes on. Mistakes and sheer...

External garage electricity wrongly connected to neighbours supply

Are we sure that an owner or anybody "deliberately" swapped around the supplies or could it pure be a mistake (carlessness) followed bu incompetant inspections both on completion and maybe other subsequend periods, that could be a case for compensations then was a danger/potential danger caused...

External garage electricity wrongly connected to neighbours supply

Although Part P came into force on Jan 1st 2005 a noncession made by LABC that contracts in force (i.e. a written estimate dated up to 3 months prior that date would readily be accepted by as evidence LABC as done before Part P became effective (I think there was an expectation that the works...

External garage electricity wrongly connected to neighbours supply

One possible consideration but maybe not. Remember The Boswells in the TV series "Bread" they owned their Grandads House and he owned theirs so both could claim More benefits supposedly? Bonkers comedy but good fun though . :giggle:

Electric heater plug just exploded - what would have caused that?

What gets me is where people hide a key outside and think they have the most secret place in the world and are amazed when you find it before they tell you and you have to explain "Burglars know all these common places". Burglar Alarm keys were a classic example . Numbers for keypads are...

    Shaver Socket to LED Mirror?

Thanks for thecomments after mine. Yes I did realise, however I did not want to ramble on too much with all the caveats and why's and wherefores etc (you all know I sometimes ramble on a bit - or a lot) so, in my little way, I was trying to simplify it a bit if possible. Having a relative who...

    Shaver Socket to LED Mirror?

It is probably easier all round to leave the existing shave socket and get a cabinate with a shaver socket as part of it (if one is avaible) that way you have only one zone (Shaver Socket to cabinate) to worry about.
