Does your boiler have any lights on the front? If so what are they doing, it might help to figure out why your boiler won't start up. does the boiler have a reset button, does this get it going. Also do you have a manual for your boiler? If so these will often point you in the right...

I would say that this is definatley a job for a professional, you can't work on the gas supply unless you're a corgi registered person. I guess if you were really determined you could get a corgi guy in to disconnect the gas supply to the existing appliance, and then if you are suitable...

Cheers Baggy, i had a look at the link you posted and it's only about £40 for the PCB reconditioned. I'll have a go at reflowing the pcb myself and if that don't do it i'll get a recon board, for only £40 i can't go wrong, cheaper than a plumbers call out fee ;) AL
