    Plasterboard fixings close together

Indeed. Though I was using the screws supplied with the Fischer fittings.

    Plasterboard fixings close together

I did some further experiments on a spare bit of PB. I used the nylon redidrive type fittings you linked to (well I used Fischer's version). I found the screw could still jam in the nylon version. If it does then it's very easy to wreck the PB, as the nylon screw rips through the PB without...

    Plasterboard fixings close together

Hmmm. I was trying to avoid doing that. It's something that I did in other rooms to get around the crumbly plaster, where I wasn't particularly bothered about the finish. In this newly renovated room, I thought i could just use the plasterboard.

    Plasterboard fixings close together

The toolstation fixings, I linked to above have screws which are longer than the fixing. When fully in, they protrude about 1cm. Whereas the metal plate for the curtain pole fixing is only about 1mm thick. Thus they need shorter screws. Do those screwfix ones, fix down to 1mm? I notice with...

    Plasterboard fixings close together

It's 25x50 battens then 50mm celotex then PB. I'd prefer not to penetrate the celotex and the VCL, if I can. So there's no other strong fixing than going through to the superstructure?

    Plasterboard fixings close together

Have a 1.2m curtain pole to fix to a plasterboard wall. I was planning to use redidrive fixings: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Screws+Fixings/Cavity+Fixings/Self+Drill+Plasterboard+Screw+Zinc/d90/sd1930/p55036 The two curtain rod brackets have a small round plate which has a triangle of...

    Chimney breast venting

Thanks. It is on an external wall. Solid brick Victorian. Relatively sheltered as it's about 1.5m from next door and on a south facing wall. Most rain here comes from the West (Irish sea). That's in case driving rain gets through brickwork into the flue? Think I'll go for the internal. The...

Filling a gap around a door

Nothing else? Easifill over foam will hold?

    Floor Vapour Control Layer

Did consider that. Celotex said the foil backing on the 50mm boards will provide the same insulation as 15mm more PIR if aganist an air gap. So it seemed a relatively expensive way to add just 10mm more PIR. This was back when I was looking at the pretty pictures of the battens installed...

    Floor Vapour Control Layer

Just had a 1st floor bedroom insulated to building regs standards. Followed the information the building control officer wanted and Celotex approved method. 25x50 treated battens against solid brick outer wall with 50mm celotex over that and then drywall. It's not the method recommended on the...

Filling a gap around a door

So if I cut the expanding foam back, then the easifill will adhere to it? Do I need to do anything special to achieve that? Mesh tape over the foam?

Filling a gap around a door

It's properly fitted, thanks. That's not just expanding foam in those gaps :)

Filling a gap around a door

We have a gap to fill before the architrave can go on. I thought easifill would be a quick and cheap option, considering I already have some. It'll just be painted white. At some point, perhaps years, the hallway will eventually be re-done. Will easifill be ok for this? Thanks.

    Chimney breast venting

Our chimneys have been removed and cut off inside the loft. The tops of the flues are entirely open to the loft space. As there is no way for rain to get down the flues, from the top, is the usual vent on each chimney breast needed? Just lined the external walls (including chimney breast) of a...

Insulating floor joists between two living spaces

Nice tip. I have hardboard in some rooms screwed down. Have removed and replaced same boards several times. The marked services is an effective idea. I'll remember it for future. Thanks.
