    bouncing joists cracking plaster

I can't see how that can be true for properly sized joists. Gyproc SoundBloc 12.5mm is 10.6Kg/m2. So two layers is 21.2Kg/m2. Take a 4mx4m room as an example, that would be a total ceiling weight of 16*21.2=339.2Kg. A person can easily weigh 100Kg. So this room, supposedly cannot support a...

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

It says use tapered edges for a 'seamless surface ready for decoration'. Though it shows tapered boards the full height of a wall i.e. no butted square ends. That implies that square edged boards aren't seamless. Well yeah we knew that, that's why we wanted tapered edge in the first place :)...

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

Ah. Of course. The boards will support each. Didn't think of that. Yeah, I was coming round to that opinion too. Ok. That's a relief. Just starting out on this kinda thing. So much to learn :) This thread has helped. I had read about resilient bars, but had ruled them out as only for...

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

That's right. Nothing wrong with suggesting it tho? I appreciated it at least. I appreciate that, but as both floors are the same property, I'm not that bothered by that. Reduction of conversation, TV, music, etc. would be fine. Thanks for that, very interesting. Indeed. I asked what...

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

Resilient channel/bar is certainly seeming more appealing. It provides this extra decoupling, but also doesn't too hard to work with and seems cheaper than wood, at least here: http://www.sigexpress.co.uk/Product.asp?utm_source=SIGExpress&utm_medium=Froogle&utm_campaign=Shopping It seems...

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

I wasn't planning to go so far as resilient bars. Or do they have some other advantage over battens? Easier to work with? Supposing battens, what dimensions would be sufficient for this ceiling? The sheds only seem to go up to 3.6m. I take it one length per span is a much better idea? Thanks.

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

Ok. Even tho I don't wanna lose too much height, that does sound more fiddly than just running battens of a suitable strength all over. But it was me that said I didn't want to lose height. Thanks for the detail :) Yeah, that's why I thought I might need to batten. Noggins or shims to adjust...

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

Always the way. Even with someone who purports to give lots of info and says sorry about it, that they neglect to mention something :) We bought it in Nov and we're surprised by how noise travelled through the house. I planned to put acoustic board everywhere, it's needed, to at least have a...

Plasterboard ceiling warped Victorian joists with Gyproc 4TE

Hi, I've pulled down a plaster and lath ceiling in a Victorian house (1890) as parts of it were coming away. Sorry, that this is so long, but I thought extra detail would be useful. I want to plasterboard it, but some of the joists are slightly different levels, only about 5mm out...

    Removing radiator

Your system is likely 'feed and return'. A picture tells a thousand words: http://www.diydata.com/planning/central_heating/pipework.php But a picture could never convey one thousand words :)

Worcester Bosch 240 RSF manual bypass screw, fully closed?

Is the manual bypass screw on a 240 RSF a safety device or part of the black art of balancing? I was contemplating adding an automatic bypass to the system. If I do, can I completely shut this screw? Or simply making sure that one rad (bathroom seems ideal) is always on? I'm concerned that...

    Thinking of changing my boiler

Yeah, that's basically the whole thing I did. Give it a whirl. Only cost the price of the x800 and the magnaclean/spirocombi. You'd have to do that anyway, before getting a new boiler, so no extraneous costs really.

    Thinking of changing my boiler

Dunno. Sentinel's site just says something like '1 hr minimum'. I put it in one afternoon, did each rad, left it in overnight, cleaned it out next day. Forgot to say, as you are doing each rad, hit the one you're working on with a rubber mallet, or hammer wrapped in a thick cloth. This will...

    Orange in boiler flame

Thanks guys. So orange ain't bad, just yellow. Does the orange indicate any failing? Poor efficiency? Or simply a bit of dirt?

    Thinking of changing my boiler

It can be used with a machine or without. Turn off all radiator valves, except those on one radiator, which both need to be open. Turn on CH, nice and hot. The full force of the pump will then be applied to that one rad. Leave a suitable time. 20mins per rad? Guess work really. Then perform...

    Thinking of changing my boiler

I'd fit it before the X400. It can then be collecting over the full month. I can't see a mains flush removing the same amount. Besides, you can fit the magnaclean and do a mains flush. I'd go for the magnaclean twintech, with filter, or a Spirocombi with magnabooster. I live in a very soft...

    Orange in boiler flame

Hi, I've noticed quite a bit of orange in the flame of my 240 RSF: http://galatea.salford.ac.uk/aix502/07032010011.mp4 Download the great free video player, VLC, if you can't play that: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ The CH and DHW are good and hot. I have a working carbon monoxide...

    Thinking of changing my boiler

As plenty of others, more knowledgeable than I, have stated, keep it. I've just bought a house with a 240 RSF installed. I too thought it was long in the tooth initially. However, I've changed my mind too, from reading the sage comments across this forum and others. I have a voucher for the...
