    The Snip? advice needed

I had mine done by the local GP, as part of a trial. Had to lay down on a table, looking up at a Simpsons poster above my head (the one with all the Springfield characters on, to give you something to think about) with the male GP and three female helpers there to talk about X-Factor with...

    Fireplace Installation

Thanks, Incidentally, I picked the fireplace up last night. Apparently, according to the guy I bought it off, the entire installation of this piece at his house was it being silicone-rubbered to the wall, and it had been in use like that for several years..... :D

    Fireplace Installation

Thanks for the info. That was a bit more than I was hoping, to be honest. It really shouldn't take much building work, as it is pretty much going back in where one came out of, so really a case of knocking off the front plasterwork, cementing and screwing the insert in place and then...

    Fireplace Installation

Morning All, In my house, I used to have a cast-iron insert fireplace, which my wife wanted replacing with a log-burner. I had the chimney swept out and checked (it's a clay liner, or whatever the term is) and, whilst I know I shouldn't have, boned up on the internet and fitted it myself...

Toyota forced to pull Yaris advert

Call me a cynic but I think this is another case of them creating an ad, and then trying to create an uproar to get more publicity...

    Coins

"Interesting" fact - The 'dainty' hand to the right of the '50' represents our Queen.... I reckon the 1897 shilling is the jewel of the bunch, though the Euro's going up in value every day too....:)

    Dangers of the wrong tools

I don't post much here any more, but I came across this and it reminded me of this place.... The subject below is an ex-member here (notb665), who died in an accident - It was very tragic, and it was made more so because he was one of those posters who had 'lived a lot of his life' on here...

Rapist - not guilty - but guilty

There are two problems with this 'It was him before, so it must be him again' way of thinking..... 1) Suspicion has probably only fallen on him because of his previous history. The case needs to then be able to stand on its own, which a jury decided it didn't. 2) If they have the same...

Help on choice of PVR or DVD recorder

I've got a Humax 9150T and, to be honest, it is fantastic - Does everything I wanted, and more. Also, with the twin tuner, you can record two things and still watching something else (though admittedly from a reduced list - something to do with being on the same MUX as the recorded...

    Vehicle impounded

Who's insurance would you expect to claim on if the car was stolen, or written off in a hit and run ? Not your son's, as he isn't the owner (N.B. Not the same as a registered keper) Most policies that allow you to drive 'other' cars, which is what the OP's brother seems to have, are with the...

    Simple Puzzle

I disagree with your disagreement. Try imagining then, that someone replicates Bob's Day 1 journey exactly on Day 2. He will pass Bob at some point, thus proving that he was in the same point at the same time once.

    Simple Puzzle

100% Certainty of it happening once. Imagine that instead of it being Bob going up one day, and Bob coming down the next, it is two different people doing the two journeys on the same day. They must pass somewhere....

MATHS HOMEWORK FOR A 12 YEAR OLD

I reckon this is right. There's something about the way the question is worded that makes you (or at least me) think that the boats have been travelling for a different ammount of time by the time they meet, but of course, they haven't. It is the same time elapsed for both since first...

    Listed Buildings

I agree. It was a fugly building, and they spent unnecessary thousands on keeping in line with the listing for a building that would have fell down anyway. The worst thing is that, like planning, a lot of listing criteria seems to be applied in a purely arbitrary manner.

    Broadcasting the Gaza emergency appeal.

I think the BBC has come to realise that it was guilty of extremely partisan, pro-Hamas reporting during the conflict itself, and by making this a story it is either making a ham-fisted attempt to make things 'right', or is actually rather cleverly inventing an angle through which it can deflect...

    Freesat+

Not exactly, but I've got a Humax PVR9150T, which is the same sort of thing, but for Freeview, and it is fantastic. Works fine, and seems like a good quality item, plus Freeview has more than enough for my needs. Only downside is that you will never stumble across a programme again, so the...

BOB DOLE ON YOUTUBE PLAYING A KEYBOARD

I'm thinking of getting one as well. I can already play 'Doe, a Deer', 'Ode to Joy' and 'Funky Town', so I should be up and running pretty quickly :)
