Painting prep best fillers and which sandpaper

As suggested go for toupret and sand down with 240 grade paper, if the woodwork you need to fill is just little dents etc the just fill with the same filler and use a decorators caulk to fill any gaps in door frames and along the skirting. What finish of paint is on the walls and ceiling at the...

White satin paint yellowing super fast

I would use a water based satin instead as the oil based are prone to yellowing. Give the door a good sand then apply a acrylic under coat then one or two coats of satin. I like crown non drip satin. If you are less experienced then I would suggest finding a water based satin that drys a bit slower.

Bathroom Ceiling - To plaster or Not to plaster...

Forgot to add give the ceiling a wash with diluted bleach and make sure the ceiling is dry before boarding over, you could even use a foil backed plaster board if you are worried. Think about having an extractor fan installed if you haven't already.

Bathroom Ceiling - To plaster or Not to plaster...

Hello, firstly there is no need to batten out the edges, just go straight over the old and up into the joists with drywall screws. Then tape and fill the joints, go onto you tube and watch a few videos on tape and filling to give you an idea. When it comes to painting, make sure you give it a...

Can I repaint my Home Office?

You can paint straight over if you like, if you have used a water based paint then use the same again. Same goes for oil based to. If you put an oil based on top of water based or vice versa then that's when problems begin as they have different flex abilities.

Dropped an anglegrinder on slate floor!

I think you should try the sanding method first, if it don't look right then just replace. It's worth a go nothing to lose really.

Fitting a limestone composite mantelpiece with an open fire

After a quick bit of research on good ole wiki, it says it would not be affected by temperatures below 150c if that's any help to you.

    final finish issue

Follow advice from above. If it was glossy then you would need to sand the surface, use a grade 240 sand paper.

Best mist/1st coat over poor skimming job

I would always say about 30% water so there's another opinion lol. In all honesty you need to water it down a bit then do a test to see if the plaster is absorbing it, if not then add more water. It does depend on the paint used and what condition the plaster is in so don't worry to much about...

When to Prep and Paint New Skim Walls and Celling?

Only sand bare plaster if there is shiny spots to allow the plaster to absorb the mist coat. If there is no shine then just mist coat it. You can fill the walls at any point, I recommend doing it after the mist coat as it highlights any imperfections. Matt emulsion would be fine in a...

When to Prep and Paint New Skim Walls and Celling?

I would recommend leaving it 2 weeks. For prep sand away any shine that may be there (i use 240 grade sandpaper) then use watered down Matt emulsion for the first coat about 30% water, once this is done you are ready to paint. If you fill anything before painting then give that a coat of the...

    Floor Levelling over Tiles

I have never put levelling compound on tiles before but first thought would be fine as you can tile straight on top of them. Best advice would be to phone the manufacturer of the product you wish to use. Maybe roughing the tiles up a bit with a sander to provide a key could be a good way to...
