Which filler for chair repair.. Prior to painting.

Yes, body filler is easy to finish and still hard enough to withstand knocks. You can buy it as a two-part pack in smallish tubes.

    Chlorine washed chicken

They don't use chlorine (i.e. bleach) any more, they use peracetic acid: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peracetic_acid Many humans die when bacteria, which are normally cleverly contained by the gut, get out into the body causing all kinds of nasty complications such as necrotising fasciitis...

Burst rising main under an old cottage. Elderly Mum frantic!

Must have been a hell of an energetic mole. Was it on drugs? (Don't bother answering, it was a carp joke)

Burst rising main under an old cottage. Elderly Mum frantic!

Great advice as always from DIYnot members, thanks. Actually I've just phoned Bournemouth Water who are remarkably helpful and the nice young man explained that they have a Leak Allowance that covers lost water due to one leak in any five year period, meaning she won't pay a penny for the lost...

Burst rising main under an old cottage. Elderly Mum frantic!

Mum aged 87 lives in an old cottage in Wiltshire and has just received a bill for over £600 from Bournmouth Water, who came and read the meter after six months of estimated bills. BW and BG who cover her internal pipework, boiler etc. have both agreed that it's a big leak between the meter and...

    Toilet spray gun

There are probably half a million homes and Muslim institutions in Britain that have a shataff spray. Every single picture I have seen on Google shows this plumbed to a wall outlet with a tap. I can't imagine that any water authority would have the balls to condemn such an installation for fear...

    Toilet spray gun

When I retire to Scotland to do more cycling, walking, skiing, kayaking and climbing our workshop/kit store will have a urinal in one corner so I don't have to go outside to pee on the grass.

    Toilet spray gun

Not a wind-up at all. Traditional WC pans are not suited to males standing up, especially careless teenage males. This is why Laufen offer a compact home urinal with a lid and an aiming fly...

    Toilet spray gun

Serious question: I installed a discrete Laufen home urinal in an empty corner of the downstairs loo, flushed by a push-button straight on the mains. Is that against regs?

    Bees going under roof tiles.

A good bit of advice I read recently: "Before tackling a wasps' or bees' nest, check that your escape route is clear...."

    Lake Oroville Dam

As always there's a huge gulf between the situation as described by the media and the reality as understood by engineers.

New Column radiators not heating up

I bet there's an airlock in the pipework somewhere. Get that plumber back. Have you paid him in full?

    Rust proof bathroom radiator ?

There are some fancy stainless steel and chromed steel towel racks available but they're a bit pricier than the standard pressed steel job from Screwfix. Have a look on https://www.warmrooms.co.uk/

Bathroom replacement - nothing out of action?

Can't you wash in a bucket and nip down to the end of the garden for the loo? Millions of Africans seem to manage.

Temperature drop on pump fed showers

We have the same setup as you and we had exactly the same problem, less dramatic but the showers would get slowly colder and we would be turning up the heat to try to compensate, yet the cylinder was still full of hot water. The pump was sucking so vigorously that it was pulling cold water...
