    Stripping wooden windows

That's the plan John, hence why I need the quicker drying paint... Thanks for the replies but just to reiterate my question: Will Dulux 'fast drying' gloss work OK with Dulux 'primer and undercoat in one'? Only reason I ask is that the gloss states it doesn't need an undercoat but as...

    Stripping wooden windows

Joe (or anyone) I've bought Dulux primer and undercoat, the Dulux gloss though takes 16 hours to dry - too long I'm afraid, especially in this weather. The quick drying gloss says it needs no undercoat - but I assume you CAN undercoat and it's better to do so? Any advice warmly welcomed !!

    Destroyed Respect..

So they assume the offender is too smart to catch and therefore don't try? Rubbish. The fact is the police didn't know that the card had been used at a certain cash point as they DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW about the offence and wouldn't give me a crime number unless I fought for it. Let alone...

    Destroyed Respect..

My credit card company didn't change my address when I had moved. So a new card and PIN were shipped to my old address. Somebody there used it to the tune of £800 in cash withdrawals. Now - the cash machine they used has CCTV. And the police knew exactly the time it had been used. And...

    wood chip paper

Buy a stanley scratcher thing ( a triangular gizmo with spiky wheels underneath it) - you'll find one in B&Q no probs Scratch the wall to buggery with it - this helps your steamer get moisture behind to loosen the paper. The more you srctach the easier the paper comes off. Steam the paper...

    New plaster

I had a room skimmed and have applied mist coat (Dulux trade vinyl matt emulsion thinned 50/50). The coat now shows up a blemish or two, nothing major (kinda 1 inch long little bits here and there), but how best to fix them? I assume if I sand the blemishes away the paint will come off...

    Hard wax oil

Thanks for the offer woodyoulike, Ashford was a bit too far (I was busy sanding!!) I will receive the hardwaxoil today, the matt finish. Can I leave 24 hours between coats, i.e. first coat 8pm tonight, same again tomorrow night? Alternativley I do it tonight and get up at the crack of...

    Hard wax oil

Very late in the day attempt here. I am sanding my floors, started today, will finish tomorrow. And boy do they look good. However, I've ordered hardwaxoil to finish them, and the bloody supplier has let me down. Should have delivered today. I called them at 4.30 and was told driver is...

    Stripping wooden windows

I've had a sand of the windows, there is probably only one layer of paint and they sand back fairly easily to wood I want to repaint them white Would it be ok to sand them so they are smooth (existing paint is awful, chipped and very bad brush strokes) Then re-paint after painting...

    Stripping wooden windows

I might well do, would you recommend it? Would you use linseed oil AND shellac on the bare wood before puttying / painting? Or is it a case of choosing one for the job? And does this affect the paint I should use?

    Preparing wooden floors

Morning Just starting to prepare to strip my floorboards after lifting ancient carpets. The boards are quite dark and a bit dirty, and therefore finding the nails to countersink in the boards is quite tough I've googled and searched all over, perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology, but...

    Stripping wooden windows

Just acquired a Vitorian property. The windows aren't in fantastic nick but then again, they could be worse. There are patches of flaking paint etc and they need re-puttying and repainting, basically 2 questions - 1) Could someone with no experience like me re-putty them? Sounds...

Stripping Wallpaper - Best Way to do it? ? ?

Aye, a scorer is your best bet, cos whether you soak the walls or use a steamer (my preferred method) the paper will come off 100 times easier if some moisture can get behind first I picked a Stanley scorer (a kind of triangular thing with little spiky wheels on it!) from B&Q for about a...
