    Ive got a leak

It was very windy yesterday in the south. Sounds like penetration rain from a specific angle. Also take some better pics.

    Why still cavity walls ?

I am mulling my options here. The usual trope for new builds is cavity wall + insulation. This seems excessive, costly, and wasteful. What is wrong with EWI systems ? A single block wall, and you can pack in 1.5-2x more insulation within the same space, don't have to deal with complexities...

    Semi detached Party walls

In my quest to discover the underlying issue I drilled another hole, albeit smaller (20mm) and that too had air emanating from it. Not sure, it seems to be dense for all the holes drilled. I can't see or feel any voids when poking around.

    How deep should fixings go

38mm depth studs, 450mm apart, 10mm gap between the studwork and wall using rubber spacers. Filled with 50mm rockwool and boarded over with soundpanel.

    How deep should fixings go

The battens do need to be secured somehow ? Do you have an recommendations ? There will be a 20mm gap between the two walls, with rockwool insulation and boarded over with sound panels.

    How deep should fixings go

Going to use hammer fixings to build a sound barrier on a party wall in a semi which will be topped off with sound panels. Will be mounting a TV on it. How deep should the wood batten fixings go into the wall ? I am thinking about 2 inches should cut it but not sure. Am also thinking of using...

    Semi detached Party walls

Just drilled into it, its not a no-fines. Drilled material is light grey so looks like a standard block thankfully. Weirdly enough, I have gone in about 2.5 inches and can feel a cold breeze?? This is ground floor of a 2 storey building.

    Wiring up combi for s-plan

Great video, thanks! Do all modern boiler manufacturers allow for PDHW though ? I;ve come across some Viessmann 050/100-W combis (2022 editions that are a which? best buy if I recall) but I can't seem to find much on converting them to PDHW.

Thanks. How much does PDHW differ from S-Plan ?

    Central heating chaos

Did you have the same problem with the old radiators ? Radiators distribute the heat, the room utilises and dissipates that heat. The higher the heat loss in the room the quicker the room will utilise that heat. Pipework has a limit for the maximum amount of kWs it can carry. An 8mm pipe with...

    Wiring up combi for s-plan

Cool. I've seen plumbers use a generic box with wagos which doesn't look very professional, nor very neat. Considering there are so many cables being thrown around, do you use a ply backing board ? or do you install straight onto the brickwork ? But with a combi you are more restricted, no ...

    Wiring up combi for s-plan

I was thinking about PDHW to resolve that for newer boilers. Kind of useless to use on/off with a constant temp when they have so much more to offer. Older combis are a different kettle of fish. How much does PDHW differ from S-Plan ? Also, does PDHW work on a 2-pipe combi ?

    Wiring up combi for s-plan

are there any particular types of junction boxes you'd recommend ? Also, how would one manage the temps for the CH and DHW ? newer combis allow for more refined settings for CH and DHW temps like weather comp.

    Semi detached Party walls

Does anyone know about the building standards with regards to semi detached party walls ? Were all properties designed to have cavity walls ? I have a 1950s no fines property so I am guessing the party wall is of a similar make up, but I'm not sure whether cavities were ever installed in...

Heat Greek vs Skill Builder mainly heat pump, but some reference to condensing gas boilers.

This is the bit that stumps me. 17.5c is uncomfortable for a lot of people regardless of humidity. 17.5c will never feel like 21c regardless of moisture levels. But the other problem is that @ 17.5c, as the air becomes more saturated it's no longer @ 40% humidity. I had a PIV with 45% humidity...

    Wiring up combi for s-plan

Well, I would have thought one thermostat for the heating and another for dhw.

Heat Greek vs Skill Builder mainly heat pump, but some reference to condensing gas boilers.

The colder the air temp the lower the humidity i.e. cold air holds less moisture. This means body sweat can evaporate more easily. Increased humidity means less evaporation and thus it is harder to cool down. Since the focus is to stay warm during the winter then surely you want to increase...

    Wiring up combi for s-plan

Can someone provide guidance on this topic ? I'm not asking for any particular brand, but just trying to wrap my head around where I would hook up the two zone valves in the combi and the two thermostats.

    Christmas Market Attack (Germany)

Those skinheads are donning wigs and going on crusades in foreign lands and have thus far either killed or enabled the killing of over 4.5 million people in the last 20 years. Bombing certain (not every) country in the west is their love letter to us and in fact a very logcal response - You kill...
