Water Coming Up BathWaste into Bath

Thank you for explaining. It really helps to understand. It is just the minutest amount of water that appears round the plug hole - I was panicking thinking it could be water from the toilet.

That's my nephew for you. As I also said, it is a works in progress.

Could it be air intake? It is a very tiny amount of water that comes back up - realistically, it is nothing more than air bubbles. We think water must be sitting in the bath waste and not draining out properly.

I think the sewer can breathe. There is another stack soil at the back of the house - the traditional style all the way up past the roof.

Thank you. I really don't want the stack going straight up at the front of the house. I can get my nephew to sort out the rest. The airbrick has gone from inside the bathroom. The bathroom has an extractor fan which vents straight out of the roof.

OK. The big pipe on the outside. I didn't want to go up above the soffit so I was told this solution was OK with building regs. The roof is being rebuilt and the angle increased which will hide the flexible pipe but I will get him to change to rigid connections. The top of the big pipe is...

Sorry, can you say that again in Laymans? I just want to know what I'm talking about when I speak to my nephew. He told me he needs to 'adjust' something but wasn't specific.

Water Coming Up BathWaste into Bath

Hello My nephew is putting in a bathroom for me. Originally there was never a toilet in the bathroom but with modern designs, it was possible to get one in the room. It is work in progress at the moment. But I am thinking that nephew hasn't got the pipe-work running at the correct angle...

    Laying Cheap Carpet

Hi We have to move into our house and unfortunately all of our building works is not complete. I have just ordered the very cheap cord carpet as a temporary fix so we aren't walking on floorboards. It seems pointless paying out for a carpet fitter as it's only going to be down for about 6 - 8...

    Painting Floorboards

Thanks. The bedroom is a guest room so it wont get too much wear. OK, I will knot the floor and I will look into a decent primer and floor paint.

    Painting Floorboards

Hi I am decorating a bedroom and I like the idea of having a painted floor. The floorboards are new. Can anyone advise on what type of paint I should use? Do I need to seal the floorboards before painting? Do I use knotting on the knots? Do I put a seal on after the main colour...

    Damp Area - Downstairs Toilet

I guess it is back to the wall. It's in a housing unit. I'm hoping to remedy the damp. The floor is bone dry. The walls seem to be dry now too (since hacking off plaster!). The red is coming from the bricks and the mortar. I am new to the area so I'm not familiar with red Devon clay. I...

I wonder if there is salt in the air as we are near the estuary.

    Damp Area - Downstairs Toilet

Yes, I will take a photo of the toilet. We have taken out the old one and in process of having a new one installed. I have a horrible feeling this house should never have been cavity insulated. It is in Devon at the top of a hill and at times the wind really batters the house. We have...

    Damp Area - Downstairs Toilet

The damp patch is immediately beneath the window. The area that is discoloured is towards the rear of the downstairs loo - parallel to the cistern.
