    Damp Area - Downstairs Toilet

Yes - I can see the DPM internally and externally. Externally it is sitting on top of the airbrick. I can see the membrane further along the wall.

    Damp Area - Downstairs Toilet

I will take more pics and post them. The air brick is on the outside of the toilet - not the next room. I can see the membrane - it is about 1 inch above the concrete floor. I believe it is a cavity wall as the front and sides of the house have had cavity wall insulation as I can see the...

    Damp Area - Downstairs Toilet

Hi We have a new home and noticed the downstairs toilet - external wall felt damp to the touch. I put a small dehumidifier crystal box (supermarket thingy!) on the window ledge. Over a couple of weeks it was full of water. There isn't a radiator on this wall but I am planning on having one...

    Skirting/Architrave - Redwood or Pine

Thanks. In the end I have gone down a mixed route. Redwood pine to match up existing in hallway and MDF skirting and architrave in all other rooms. Redwood floorboards for bedroom and I am pleased with them.

    Skirting/Architrave - Redwood or Pine

Hi I've had a couple of quotes for skirting and architrave. I asked for Pine, but one company has come back over £100 cheaper but they have quoted redwood. I have never heard of it. Is redwood of a lesser quality than pine? Many thanks George

Hi The linings are already in place. They are all flush - no grooves. I need to know what casings to buy.

    Casings for Door Lining

Hi We have had door linings put up and we have bought our 7 doors. 5 doors are one size 1981 x 762 x 35 and 2 doors are 1981 x 686 x 35. The actual door linings vary slightly between 135 and 150mm. What size casings would I have to buy? Is the size of the casing determined by the door...

Is my floor too low for DPC?

Hi Yes it is the membrane I can see. So if I put some DPM behind the new skirting - it should get damp and rot?

Diluted Paint for Mist Coat - Spray Machine

Hi I've got a whole house to do a mist coat on new plaster. I'm going to use a Wagner Airless Sprayer. Can anyone tell me roughly what ratio of water to paint I should be using? Many thanks George

Is my floor too low for DPC?

The internal floor is higher than the outside of the house (gardens/pathways). When fitting new skirting, should we run some DPC over the floor an up behind the skirting?

Is my floor too low for DPC?

It looks like the traditional black stuff that comes on a roll. The walls are brick and have a cavity FFL?

Is my floor too low for DPC?

We hacked all the plaster off the wall and removed skirting. The skirting was rotten on the external walls. The floors are concrete and the DPC is visible - it is about an inch above the floor. Would this be the reason why the skirting was wrotten?

Best Way to Prepare Concrete Floor for Real Wood Flooring

I wasn't planning too also, the method I want to use, I using flexible glue - I doubt if I can use underlay. The house itself is incredibly warm. The previous owners had carpet down. Can I use the flexible on concrete?

Best Way to Prepare Concrete Floor for Real Wood Flooring

Hello We have bought a house and the ground floor is solid concrete and totally even. It is 'green in colour'. We don't know if this green is some sort of seal. On top of this 'green concrete floor' was a layer of black self adhesive membrane. We made the mistake of pulling this up before...

Best way to clear up after plastering?

ROFL - completely mis-read that!! Yep a garden hoe sounds like a good idea.

Best way to clear up after plastering?

I don't think I will try that one. I don't fancy having water dripping through the new ceilings lol.

Best way to clear up after plastering?

OK, I know you are going to tell me the plaster should have done this as he was going along. He didn't because my hubby told him not to bother and he would do it!! Generally, shouldn't plasterers put plastic sheeting down on top of the floor boards? Anyway I'm not crying after spilt milk but...

    Bad skimming?

My dad is a retired professional decorator. He would never caulk around sockets or switches. Skirtings and archiatraves yes.
