Visibility of Earth bonding in bathrooms

ahh.......won't be using them then ! The search for something that does the job but doesn't defeat the object of buying a cool looking bathroom rad continues.

Ezybond are the "least ugly" I've found so far....

    Electrical fire at a pub

The brewery's insurance almost certainly covers them for 'arson' anyway. To refuse the claim they'd probably have to prove a) arson b) that it was an employee of the company that did it c) complicity on the part of the company, not just a landlord who'd gone off his nut virtually...

    Main Bonding

Thanks DESL ... am going to get a socket put outside anyway, so this would probably dovetail with getting that done. I know advertising etc on here is banned for obvious reasons, but as you're in Essex and I'm in Ilford and was going to just pick a name out of Yellow Pages, am I allowed to ask...

    Main Bonding

Cheers for that John, I'm going have a very busy electrician ! In order to get the cable back to the terminal, it would have to traverse at least one doorway and there's laminate flooring down so any tips on how to get it run safely but neatly as poss across those would be most welcome. In...

    Main Bonding

Last of several questions on work I need to get done (by a professional), thanks for answers to date. I think I've got my head round what is required and why, gas & water bonded to main earth terminal, but I'm not sure if what I have in place is up to the job. I had a new boiler installed...

Many Thanks Guess it comes down how much I can dig out from the back of the sofa. But at least now I understand the difference and what the options are, cheers guys !

New Consumer Unit - what's best - RCBO, Split Load etc ?

Thanks guys, it is very much appreciated That's what I thought about RCBO.... I'll get the calculator out and see what the cost diff is I want everything as protected as possible. Must admit I like the sound of RCBOs though to be honest I'm not sure why.... Is there anything that...

New Consumer Unit - what's best - RCBO, Split Load etc ?

Is there any difference between split load with RCDs for a 'group' or single RCBOs or am I (as usual) talking twaddle) ?

New Consumer Unit - what's best - RCBO, Split Load etc ?

Thanks Rob, I'm just curious not doubting, but any chance of knowing why ?

New Consumer Unit - what's best - RCBO, Split Load etc ?

Have been doing a bit of research (I just like to have a basic understanding, so I can ask for I want) before I hit the yellow pages and get a professional in (unfortunately no-one I know could recommend anyone). Now I do know I need a new consumer unit to replace the old 'fusewire'...

    fan light fixings

A little bit off topic perhaps (?) learner, but Rob is quite correct if you want to install a ceiling fan in a room with a gas fire or back boiler (especially an older one) you should apparently get it tested for 'spillage'. There are quite a few hospitilisations every year which are put down...

    Bonding

On a related note: Have been doing some research here on what I do and don't need to get done before I get a professional in (I just like to understand what I'm paying for and why). As I don't have anything electrical within zones 1,2 or 3 of my bathroom (ceiling lights outside zones, no...

    wiring appliances in kitchens

I wouldn't have thought removing a plug would invalidate a warranty, it's incorrect connection that does, something that's impossible (or covered by warranty) if you use the moulded plug. So "removing the moulded plug MAY invalidate your warranty" but probably won't.

    Liability insurance

General Pitfall Sounds obvious, but the biggest mistake people make (and a lot do) is that they don't buy the right type of insurance, make sure you know what is covered and even more importantly what isn't. If you're not sure whether something is covered, ask and get the answer in writing...

Boiler damaged by meter installers error!

OK sorry I misunderstood a bit, the damage was caused by something they did in the process of fitting new meters not something they left in place you had to correct. (this is why I don't touch electrics !) It still comes down to the same thing... an expert opinion, you seem quite sure that is...

Boiler damaged by meter installers error!

I take your point, and with hindsight (a wonderful thing), a photo would have helped, but as a qualified electrician of good standing why would you lie. The whole claims industry is based upon expert reports, you very rarely get to see what actually caused the damage as it's more often than not...

Boiler damaged by meter installers error!

Crafty is absolutely correct, but I'd add the following. The owner occupiers are the ones who should write as they are the ons who sufferred the loss, the letter should include a report from someone qualified (presumably your goodself) to show why it is the supplier who are at fault...
