How much are you paying?

London based, domestic electrical, £2m cover Quote £95 with £250 excess

London based, domestic electrical + commercial, £5m cover. Quote £140 with £250 excess.

One man band, sole trader. No claims in last 5 years.

Seems reasonable.

Is there any Co's that you have had a bad experience with that are worth avoiding. Any pitfulls that you'd suggest steering clear of?

£300 ish for 2mill PLI + pro indemnity + Employers liability (covers any casual labour & her indoors doing the books)

General Pitfall

Sounds obvious, but the biggest mistake people make (and a lot do) is that they don't buy the right type of insurance, make sure you know what is covered and even more importantly what isn't. If you're not sure whether something is covered, ask and get the answer in writing (email) before you part with your hard earned.

As for the difference in companies, the only time you'll ever have a problem is if there's a claim and I'm afraid to say that it's just pot luck on who gets that file, like any profession some claims handlers/loss adjusters are better than others. Institutionally I don't think there's anything to choose.
