    'Energy saving' scam call

When I lived in my old place and had a spare few mins when we had these calls, I'd listen to the spiel about how great their double glazing or conservatory was and say I'd like it. And just as you can hear them rubbing their hands add I live in a flat so can't have a conservatory and the...

Please help: buying a house and completion certificate?

For your peace of mind I would ask your BCO for a letter detailing what's outstanding for them to issue a Final Certificate. Just to make sure there are no hidden issues for you to discover later like no soak away or a problem with drainage or something.

    Mould on ceiling eaves

Is the mould only on the sloping areas? If so my suggestion would be to insulate the sloping sections. As I'm guessing your mould is caused by all the water condensing on the un insulated colder sections of the roof as the main ceiling is warmer due to your roof insulation. It may just be this...

    What sort of flooring?

We are looking at doing the house up and have pretty much decided on installing underfloor heating up and downstairs. I know this will be costly but the house has suffered a lack of maintenance for years so we need to take up finishes and replace things anyhow. Anyway my question; I have dogs...

Problems re-roofing garage, brickwork is now loose!

I was just worried about how long it would take the mortar to dry as all it seems to be doing here currently is raining.

Problems re-roofing garage, brickwork is now loose!

Last weekend we took the old roof off the garage, with the intention of having it done the same weekend. But the existing joists were built into the brickwork and the top 2/3 courses have now come loose. We have temporarily removed the loose brickwork but are now wondering is best and...

Cheap and DIY way to re-roof garage felt or something else?

I have now began the task of clearing out the garage, there is always more junk than you think there is. Thank god for freecycle! I have been having other thoughts though, I was wondering about making a warm roof when I re-roof the garage. For two reasons; 1. I am into cars and are likely...

Easiest way to create two small retaning walls in the garden

If it will be much more work and cost more I think I may go with sleepers. I have seen smaller diamerter wood poles used vertically before, are they any good.

Easiest way to create two small retaning walls in the garden

Im not in Wanstead, im in Kent. I have thought about a railway sleeper wall, but I was thinking as the garden slopes up away from the house using a surface that could be rendered or painted to hopefully make the patio area a bit brighter as it is normally quite a dark area.

Cheap and DIY way to re-roof garage felt or something else?

Ta looking at the website that looks exactly the sort of think we need, and idiot proof instructions (also good). Looking at approx cost it looks like the membrane will cost around £250 so good value too if I can install it and it will last 50 years!

Easiest way to create two small retaning walls in the garden

Ahh sorry I have just realised what I wrote isn't what I meant! Could someone change the title? By steps I meant a small retaining wall (x2), to hold back about 2-2.5 foot of soil.

To be honest we hardly use it but I think a gas fire would be better if/when we sell. I have now found one on ebay I like from some place called discount fireplaces? Has anyone heard of them? But still need to get an installer sorted out.

Cheap and DIY way to re-roof garage felt or something else?

Oh that sounds perfect, do you have a link to the place you got it from? Sorry if this sounds like an odd question, if its pre-shaped how does the weathering of the corners work?

Cheap and DIY way to re-roof garage felt or something else?

I have been looking at rubber membrane and glass fibre. My DIY skills could stretch to the felt but TBH I would probably get someone in to make sure it looked nice rather than just ok.

Easiest way to create two small retaning walls in the garden

Our back garden slopes up away from the house that garden is about 60foot long and slopes up about 5foot. Currently there is a patio area, step up to a sloping flower bed (trampled by the dogs), a sloping something resembling a lawn, then a rockery type thing (i think this was a step that has...

Cheap and DIY way to re-roof garage felt or something else?

Our garage roof has been leaking for some time now, the previous owner had let the garden grow out of control and it had formed its own green roof on the garage roof. I am a reasonably competent DIYer so will tackle new joists and boarding myself. I know felt would be the usual...

    Fire ideas

I have heard bad things about major store fires like B & Q etc. There is only one fire shop I know of near me and I have had a look there for what we wanted, although the assistant put me off from buying from them as she didnt seem to have a clue what she was on about when I asked questions...
