    Cleaning/Restoring Solid Wood Floor

Thank you. It’s actually this stuff: https://kable8684.bitbucket.io/schreiber-caramel-real-wood-flooring--147-sq-m-per-pack.html? came from Homebase but they don’t sell it any more. It’s made from “wood”, whatever that means! Looks lovely straight from the pack, but has proved difficult to...

    Cleaning/Restoring Solid Wood Floor

Thank you. He’s actually not far from me so I might just give him a ring…getting him in to do a bit of a restoration job & advise me on future maintenance (techniques, good products to use, etc.) might be a good investment.

    Concrete subfloor - needs repair?

Lifted an old carpet in my study. Concrete subfloor underneath. Want to fit solid wood flooring (using leftovers from previous project where I bought too much). Tongue & groove flooring to be glued in place with Laybond Floor Adhesive. The subfloor is nice and level but has some hairline cracks...

    Cleaning/Restoring Solid Wood Floor

I fitted solid wood floors about 5 years ago. There’s quite a noticeable grain in the wood, which looked nice when new, but over time it has been a magnet for dust (if I’d known this would happen I would probably have used different flooring, but hey ho). Also a couple of times I’ve been doing...

    Shower - Always Warm

Thanks. Yes, for the last few weeks I'd say. Point taken about the warm weather perhaps making the cold water less cold. I think there's more to it than that though because I've never noticed it in previous years - something different seems to be going on. I've just grabbed a temperature probe...

    Shower - Always Warm

I have a Triton HP Combi shower in my bathroom. It's probably 20 years old. Recently it has been acting a bit strange - if I turn the water temperature all the way down, the water is still a bit warm. It used to be ice cold. Maybe it doesn't matter...I'm not one for taking freezing cold...

Bosch PKS16 Mini Circular Saw - Cutting Cement Fibreboard

Thank you all. Update: the PKS16 with the diamond ceramic wheel worked nicely - I wasn't sure if it would do the job but I got nice clean cuts and it doesn't seem to have destroyed the blade. Good times!

Bosch PKS16 Mini Circular Saw - Cutting Cement Fibreboard

Thanks everyone for the replies. Perhaps I should have been more specific. The board I'm using is this stuff: https://www.wickes.co.uk/STS-Construction-Board-1200-x-800-x-12mm/p/225437 A couple of the reviews suggest it's pretty strong stuff & not easy to cut. On the other hand, it's a fairly...

Bosch PKS16 Mini Circular Saw - Cutting Cement Fibreboard

I've got a Bosch PKS16 handheld mini circular saw, which comes with three round blades (65mm diameter, 15mm hole): * Ceramic * "Precision" (whatever that means) - with 12 cutting teeth * "Special" (whatever that means) - looks similar to precision but has 20 cutting teeth. I've used the...

    Door Closer for Tight Space

Oh...hang on...do I turn the whole thing upside down and mount the fat bit on the door frame?

    Door Closer for Tight Space

I want to fit a door closer with a nice damped action to my front door. I have some of these spare: https://www.screwfix.com/p/smith-locke-series-3-overhead-door-closer-silver/399hr But unfortunately they're far too "fat" - with the closer in place, I can only open the door about 60 degrees...

Fire Alarm Call Point Test Keys

Ahhh thank you. Nice. If I don’t hear back from the supplier in a couple of days I’ll splash out and buy a pack of 5

Fire Alarm Call Point Test Keys

I think I need to order some test keys for our fire alarm call points. These are from a company called Protec. The test key seems to fit in the small slot on the bottom, but we don't have any. Does anyone know where I can buy a suitable key please? (I've emailed the supplier, but I haven't had...

    Stupid Pneumatic Delay Switches

There seem to be some cheap PIR switches on Amazon that don’t need a neutral. I’m tempted to buy one and try it out, just as an experiment.

    Stupid Pneumatic Delay Switches

ahhhh thank you…I’m a bit slow on the uptake I think. I’ll check them out.

    Stupid Pneumatic Delay Switches

Thanks. Yeah that’s what I suspected. So does this mean I can only use mechanical switches here? (or just join the wires, blank off the back box and have the lights on 24/7?)

    Stupid Pneumatic Delay Switches

I’ve just checked the wiring behind the switches. There’s earth, red and black. Black = neutral? (Old skool wiring colours?) wondered if I might see 4 core red live/yellow switched live/blue neutral/earth like I have inside my flat, but no. oh and the lights are all LEDs which is good for...

    Stupid Pneumatic Delay Switches

I live in a leasehold property in London and I’m responsible (along with two others) for property maintenance. there’s a big hallway/stairway inside the building and the lighting is controlled by about half a dozen of those white pneumatic delay switches. We’re not happy with them - they don’t...

    Room Thermostat Upgrade Woes

Update: FWIW the timer is a Drayton Lifestyle LP111. I can’t check for a neutral connection though (not without taking it off the wall and annoying my gf anyway!)
