    Plane advice please.

Excellent, thank you. Am I being optimistic in trying to plane off up to 20mm? And I assume any cheap plane will do, I only have this job to do.

    Plane advice please.

Good morning, I am making a bath panel out of MR MDF, but due to a level bath and a sloping bathroom floor I need to 'shave' of about 5-20mm from one of the long edges. I would appreciate some advice on the following please - 1) Is 20mm too much to plane off (I don't have a circular saw)...

Hi everybody, I am having a clear out and have the following stuff going free (collection only from Twickenham): - 3/4 of a 10l tub of Thistle Bond-It - 1/2 bottle of ADP (probably 1ltr left) - 3 x felt pipe sleeves - 3 reels of board joinging tape (the glass mesh stuff) If no...

BAL APD peeling from new plaster.

Sorry for the delay, I was away for the week. The plastering was done at the end of october, so I don't think moisture is the issue. I started a new thread for this topic as the other was titled for a different question and I didn't want to wander off topic. Anyway, I spoke with bal tech...

BAL APD peeling from new plaster.

Richard, I am very sorry if I have given the impression that I am ungrateful for the advice, this is not the case and I thank you for the time you have spent in replying to me. I was just looking for clarity on your use of primers as you advise to tile on it 30mins after application / not to...

BAL APD peeling from new plaster.

Good evening Richard I understand that it is not a tile primer, but if you check paint for it's bond strength, why not a primer? Afterall, they both form a layer between the adhesive and the substrate. I am using BAL WP1 which comes with APD as part of the kit. Are there not times when...

BAL APD peeling from new plaster.

An update whch I would appreciate your comments on. I primed a few test patches varying the dilution of the primer and further roughing the surface up with a wire brush. The best result was multiple weak dilutions applied to the brushed area. So with this in mind I have done the whole wall, but...

BAL APD peeling from new plaster.

Very many thanks Richard. The instructions on the APD state "Allow to dry thoroughly for 15-30mins before applying adhesive". I read this as meaning it will take up to 30 mins to dry. I will do two test areas tonight - 1) Rough up further with a wire brush in case I have not broken...

BAL APD peeling from new plaster.

Hi Richard, You may recognise this from another thread, but I thought I would start a new one as the other was a little off topic. I will be tanking with WP1 and will use BAL Mosaic Fix (as advised by BAL tech help). The tiles are glass, 100x300mm and weigh 18kg/m2. This peeling APD...

BAL APD peeling from new plaster.

Good evening all, I am trying to tile a newly skimmed wall, but am having issues with the BAL APD primer peeling off after application. I would really appreciate our advice please. Below is a summary of what has happened to date - - I applied 2 neat coats (as per instructions) is came...

Tiling on a skim - devil float it?

An update - I spoke to the nice guys at BAL who advised on sanding it back (to remove the peeling primer), and priming it again with a 1:1 dilution. I did this, and to remove the dust I brushed it and then wiped clean with a damp cloth. I left it to dry ad then applied two 1:1 coats. 18hrs...

Tiling on a skim - devil float it?

I realised it peeled easily when I pulled some masking tape of it - it pulled a whole big sheet off. It peels just like you are removing PVA from your hands, I certianly have no faith in it holding tiles. I'll try and get some advice from BAL and will report back. In the meantime, all...

Tiling on a skim - devil float it?

Evening all, I need to pick you brains please. When skimming a bathroom wall in preparation for tiling, I over-polished it and the primer (BAL APD neat) peeled off in sheets. I now intend to peel it all off and re-prime with a 1:1 dilute. Should I then give it a second coat, neat...

    Skimming new (still damp) plaster

Evenin' all, I have been trying my hand at plastering recently and am pretty happy with the results. I am find walls and ceilings "easy" but struggling with the smaller/fiddly areas. Today I plastered a window recess but, due to running out of plaster, I need to go back over it. How do...

Nervous about boxing in joints - advice please.

That is a really interesting point. So leave a bowl under it, and just check it occassionally? Out of interest, why glass/ceramic and not plastic?! I am not sure whether it would work with this case as the pipe is a vertical "T" off a horizonal pipe only 1" from the floor.

Nervous about boxing in joints - advice please.

Wet pipe, hence the use of it. It is theorectically possible to drain the system though, just a massive headache to do so. Though it would give peace of mind... Anyother plumbers tips?
