    Floating engineered Oak - 3mm in 3m??

WYL, Thanks for your response. Sadly you read my post correctly, my floor slopes 22mm over 3.5m. Is floating impossible then? Would glueing/nailing be better? GW

    Floating engineered Oak - 3mm in 3m??

More advice required please. What is meant by 3mm variation over 3m? Does this refer to dips/bumps, or to a change of level (i.e. one side of the room higher than the other)? For example, I have a room which is flat (no dips/bumps) but of a consistent gradient making a 22mm drop over...

'I'd rather employ a paedophile than ex-forces personnel!'

Well said. I am glad that there are those who are willing to do what I wouldn't/couldn't.

'I'd rather employ a paedophile than ex-forces personnel!'

Ajstoneservices - I stand by that. I have not made a comment on my intelligence or the 'worth' of a member of the armed forces. All I have done is express my opinion and supported it with some independent research. I am not really sure how I could have put my point forward in a more coherent...

'I'd rather employ a paedophile than ex-forces personnel!'

That final couple of points were general, not aimed at yourself. I am disppointed that having expressed my opinion politely I am told it is "cr*p" and "5hit" and that I strut around telling everyone how intelligent I am which "proves the opposite". Just a bit OTT I feel. How can you attack...

    Removing Polyfilla from wood detailing

Sounds fun, but what about the Polyfilla problem? I'll try tonight, thank you.

'I'd rather employ a paedophile than ex-forces personnel!'

I am slightly confused by your comments. I have not at any point made any reference to my intelligence or bravery (or lack thereof). I am not judging anyone. Nor have I claimed to be a better man. All I am pointing out is that the majority of army recruits are from the lower end of the...

    Removing Polyfilla from wood detailing

I am stripping a door frame of many coats of gloss and have found that some bright spark has tried to fill the detailing on a complicated door frame with a filler of some sort to make it smooth. Removing this with a scraper is dmaging the wood. Ideas?

'I'd rather employ a paedophile than ex-forces personnel!'

Ajstoneservices, I am not for one minute suggesting that the armed forces, and those who serve, are not doing a great job (whatever that job is) . I am responding to the hysteria that errupts when someone suggests that the majority are poorly educated and not solely motivated by patriotic...

'I'd rather employ a paedophile than ex-forces personnel!'

I'll stick my head above the parapet and say I agree (to a large extent) with Skitzee2k. I work very closely with the Army and Navy - both impress me in their organisation (etc) but it is fair to say the vast bulk of non-officer recruits are there because of limited other options. The...

Very uneven subfloor - Impossible to have oak boards?

Thanks WYL, If I use different thicknesses of ply, would I need to add an additional top layer of ply so the contact surface with the engineered boards is smooth? This could raise the floor considerably... I assume you would recommend floating the boards on 3-5mm foam underlay. Thanks...

Very uneven subfloor - Impossible to have oak boards?

More expert advice please :( Existing pine floor is very uneven - one corner of the room rises by 18mm over just 1.5m! Does this rule out ever being able to have engineered oak flooring? We can't take existing boards up completely as it supports a stud wall. Could 20mm engineered oak be...

Below Floor Storage in a Flat.

Thanks Coljack Ok, so not the best idea I've ever had. As the flat is in a state due to ongoing work I may pop back later on for storage ideas once furniture locations (etc) are decided. Thanks for the kind offer :)

Below Floor Storage in a Flat.

Afternoon All, some advice required please. I live in a small victorian flat (3rd floor) and need more storage. I am considering utilising the space between the floor joists. This would either mean having multiple removable panels to provide access, or a single panel (per joist gap) and a...

Cheers Richard, will do. (The plasterer has 27years experience so I shall assume he knows what he's doing!).

    Drying too quick

Quick question if I may: Given the 24hrs PVA advice, should I be worried if I get a plasterer in and he starts plastering on the same morning? I too need old bare plaster skimmed. Thanks.

    How to weigh 0.12 grams?

    I am sure this was a typo by FrankE, it should be 1000ml of water. 1000/10 = 100 doses 12g/100 = 0.12g

Firefighter arrested after farmer killed by stampeding cows

Ah, now I am forced to reveal my true identity. I am a farm boy from Wiltshire - I have had my arm up many cow. If you approach them calmly, let them know you are there and don't flap about cows are very predictable. If you suddenly whack on bright flashing lights and a 120dB siren however...
