    Poor plastering

Thank you for your help! we have also found that when we run our hand across the walls he’s done, a fine white dust appears. None are external walls so don’t think it’s damp. All feels quite chaulky - very different to our master bedroom (which does have external walls) done by a different guy...

    Poor plastering

Hi all, hoping you can help. We’ve recently had our hallway and landing plastered. Paid going rate (had a few quotes) but the finish is not what we were expecting. It’s rough in places and I’m worried about the finished look once we paint. should we mist coat and then sand bits? Or sand bits...

    Subfloor ventilation

Hi John, best photos I can get attached. You can only see the air vent from the inside by angling your phone, not by sight. This is the only one we can get a pic of, others you can feel with your fingers if you reach around some odd spaces! yes Edwardian. Thanks

    Subfloor ventilation

Thank you everyone! We have eight vents around the house however they are above the DPC outside into the cavity wall with a lower brick knocked out internally. I think a lot of the air is going up the cavity instead of down into the subfloor. Had another guy yesterday who quoted £450 which...

    Subfloor ventilation

Hi there, looking for a bit of advice. we had a damp and timber specialist come to look at our subfloor the other day as there’s signs of woodworm and a smell of damp. upon inspection (he was round 10 mins and charged £160!) he’s quoted £825 for treatment in the hallway, dining room and...

    Insulating loft

Survey said woodworm was historic and no signs in loft, just called out hallway - no other room. Is it worth treating the loft?

    Insulating loft

Great, thanks John. Not sure on depth of joists but roof is felted. Think we will add some here as well as the floor. Hoping it’ll help the downstairs!

    Insulating loft

None really. Last owners put some board down but only about 50mm and not all over. Then stuffed some insulation in the eaves(!). We’re pulling it all back and once condensation gone going to insulate properly

    Flooring woodworm

We recently purchased a three bed semi. The floorboards in the hallway are in terrible condition - the previous owners lifted the carpet 20 odd years ago and haven’t looked after them properly. the survey said the hallway has suffered historic woodworm (see pics). Do you think any can be...

    Insulating loft

Hi everyone, our three bed Edwardian is very cold. The upstairs heats with heating but then gets cold quickly once turned off, whilst the downstairs gets warmer (only to about 16 / 17 degrees Celsius currently) and then dips. looking to insulate. We have cavity walls but will not insulate here...

    Mould

Oh very jealous of your nice toasty house!! luckily plaster all in tact etc, just little bit of damp on outside walls towards the bottom. Hopefully fixable through repointing and chimney work. Not going to strip all back

    Mould

Cavity brick walls. Survey said no insulation had been added to cavity walls, which am glad about as have heard that in itself can cause problems. We have five air bricks in the property which I’ve made sure to clean of dust and spiders webs etc. the exterior certainly needs work with...

    Mould

Thanks. What do you reckon the yellowish stuff on the ground is? We assumed the worst but hopefully wrong! The joists do look okay from what we can see, which is good.

    Mould

Thanks both. We will get someone in to have a look. we have plenty of air vents and the floor outside is an adequate distance from the vent. lifted up vinyl (see pic) and the kitchen floor is definitely damp underneath - you can smell it when you lift it, which you couldn’t before. Guess we...
