Any tips on replacing my tiled shed roof with felt?

The tiles look in pretty good nick. Is it laid at too shallow a pitch or too little headlamp?

Why do Builders Merchants make up selling price on a whim?

I find going in in person is best for low prices, dressed as badly as possible.

Silverline Electric Breaker / bit stuck

Looks like you've put the bit in with the detent in the opposite side to the rotating lock that's meant to engage with the detent. If you then used it like that you've probsbly given it a right battering!

    Verge clips

I was just chatting to my roofing merchant about an order of Redland Grovesburys, and wondered if I should get some verge clips. He said that they hardly sell any because no one uses them. I agree that they look awful and prefer the clean lines without them, but was surprised. Do the BCO's...

    Number of building control visits

I only ever use the local authority. My visits are between 5 and 30 seconds. If I'm stupid enough to ask a question then sometimes they extend to 2 minutes. I read the threads on diynot in bewilderment at people having problems with their inspector pulling them up on tiny details such as the...

Loft Conversion: do beams have to be closed up to run joists across them?

Is the question about whether the ends of the beams need to be restrained or built in in some way?

    Number of building control visits

Normally the minimum is: -Bottom of foundations, -oversite with hardcore, -insulation under slab and DPM etc (depends on construction method) -roof on, at which point you have the whole structure complete and exposed. -final completion, which can double up to check roof insulation (again...

    Decking complaint (threads merged)

Completely agree with your sentiment, but I think an enforcement notice is in the public domain just like any other planning application, so no breach may have occurred.

    Planning Drawings for the extension

I've done submissions using something as simple as Visio in the past. Painful but possible. £600 isn't too bad really. Depends how much you value your time... Most of my drawing used to get done on my boss's time.

First Fix nails for nail gun. Ring or smooth to build stud walls?

Can you elaborate Woody. I have a box of 2000 of each and I'm never really sure where smooth are acceptable.

Protecting floor joists and using the first floor during the build

I asked my scaff company to give me 20 extra 4 metre boards so that I can use the inside space, and then put my own scaff towers on them. I dont think I'd have been able to do the roof without being able to work from the inside. Fair play to you pushing on through winter. I'm nervous enough...

    Extension quote. Sound fair?

Does the quote include internal finish to floors, walls, lighting, and matching this in with the existing room that's being knocked through?

C24 Rafter spacing and spans for 170mm

Hi, Does anyone have a span table that includes C24 170mm rafters @400c/c. I can only seem to find ones that go up to 150mm but I'm sure I've seen one before that goes up to 170mm. Thanks

Dewalt dcn692 nailer struggles with ring shanks

I only use the dcn for one extension a year, and it's not failed yet. No idea if it's run in but it'll sink a regular 90mm below the surface so I have to dial it back. I'm going to give it another go now that my actual rafter wood has arrived. The floor joist wood that I was struggling with...

Purpose of loading out a roof

What's the purpose of loading out before laying. Does it matter if you have a structural ridge stopping everything moving around? Thanks

    Permitted developments

Hard to say without seeing a plan, but be careful with the boiler room - search for previous threads on here where councils have determined that the side walls of such things constitute side elevations, meaning your PD rear extension can't be wider than half the width of the original house...
