    Skirting and thick pile carpet

Hmm, well some nail polish remover on a door architrave and skirting (in different rooms) didn't seem to do anything, for a control a bit on a wall did come off. Odd. I wonder where this 5l of wb has been used then :/ So, I guess ob, or better still sand, prime, wb. If the latter, perhaps my...

    Skirting and thick pile carpet

Cool, I thought so, well, I need to assess if it's water or oil based satin they have put on I guess. Down the shed there's 5l of trade Valspar satinwood (wb) and 2.5l of Dulux (not trade) Satinwood, ob. I've just found out I can rub some alcohol on it and see if the paint comes off - if so...

    Skirting and thick pile carpet

Cool - I'll bear that in mind, I know the cheap stuff is no good - too tacky often (I used the trick of putting it on my clothes first to 'de tack it' lol. Never seen that roll and stroll - just looked on tool station, interesting, I thought I was upgrading by getting one of their plastic...

    Skirting and thick pile carpet

So sort of apply it at say 45 degree angle then flattening down on to the carpet. Or applying flat but leaving a bit you could push down with say a plastic ruler or something (I happen to have one in front of me on my desk, looks like it'd work!)

    Skirting and thick pile carpet

It may well be, but I suspect not - I certainly don't fancy it on the stairs next to the stringer. btw - I assume it's the same Wayners from HUKD forums since you often chip in on similar threads on there? Paint wise, I'm thinking Dulux *trade* satin wood at the moment. I posted a thread on...

    Skirting and thick pile carpet

Very helpful thanks, I hadn't thought of a belt and braces approach, I'll do some testing behind where the bed goes me thinks! Cheers

    Skirting and thick pile carpet

I've only painted skirting with either no carpet, or rarely with a pretty thin/low pile carpet. We have this super thick carpet here, do people: 1. Masking tape on the carpet? (sounds like it would seep under it and be a hideous mess) 2. Use strong card, keep moving it along making sure not to...

    Valspar paint peeling off

What are people's experience of Valspar 700 over Valspar 700? - As stated in a previous thread, from tins left around I can see the whole house has been painted in this stuff, it still looks decent, and I've had to get some pen and stuff off some bits and it's looked alright. Also, if I was...

    Ogee or not!

Guys, recently moved into a new place which had a rather anxious puppy I think - it's basically eaten away the architrave in a couple of rooms. I've managed to cleanly get a section out, which I'll replace, however, I'm finding a bloody hard job to get an even close match! On initial inspection...

Satin for trims and doors etc?

Guys, we've recently moved into a new place in which we intend to decorate. Fortunately it's mostly in really good condition (better than our old house!), but naturally when we repaint in a colour we prefer the skirting/architrave etc will look a bit naff - so - it needs a repaint. * Currently...

    Making a record/vinyl storage unit

Thanks for the comments. I had intended to put a back on it, probably decent ply. I could paint the back yeah, but I'm hoping it'd be full of records and made in such a way you'd not see the back! I'm struggling to see how the jig side of things comes into it, and the dowels! I was thinking...

    Making a record/vinyl storage unit

Cheers, I'd be using solid wood as opposed contiboard or similar, yeah, I guess I could practice a few times! Thanks for the jig thoughts :)

    Making a record/vinyl storage unit

Guys, I'm quite keen to make my own vinyl storage unit, something along the lines of the Ikea Kallax idea, so essentially three 'cubes' wide by two height. Essentially build a rectangular frame being about 700mm in height, 900/1000mm wide, split in half horizontally, then vertically a few...

    Bathroom peeling, Zinsser peel stop?

I have no idea, the wall was painted before we came, and we repainted it. One wall was plastered when we had the bathroom redone, and yes, this was must coated before being painted, and it's totally fine :)

    Bathroom peeling, Zinsser peel stop?

Hey Guys, The paint on one wall in our bathroom (the external wall) and ceiling is peeling a little in some places (see attached). I was thinking of sanding it back, using Zinsser Peel Stop and then using Zinsser Permawhite interior. Does this sound like a decent plan? It's not something I...

    Mysterious beep..

Right, so for those who are interested (perhaps nobody, I'd not blame you), I promised I'd respond when we knew what the culprit was.... Drum roll... Carbon Monoxide tester... in the neighbors house, in a drawer, because she thought it no longer worked (so why not bin it?!). She texted us on...

    Mysterious beep..

I remember Googling it before and some Stack Overflow or similar result came up, suggesting I record it in each room and try to identify in which it's strongest, from the recording, since the human ear is pretty bad at detecting this. Alas, I didn't do this, or have the time to really! The geek...

    Mysterious beep..

Not a peep (pun fully intended!) since I last posted on the thread, so, either we're all good, or it'll start again at some random time like 2weeks time. I bloody hope not though. Oh and we're mid terrace, so yeah can hear some stuff in neighbouring houses, but 30s houses, so not like new...
