How deep can I compact stone in one go? Can I do full depth at approx 6-8” all in one go or should I do it in 2 layers? Soft ground. Wanted to do it in one so I could have all stone tipped in the hole to save shovel and barrow work. Thanks in advance.

you've done well to get one quote. I've asked quite a few builders for quotes using them kind of drawings and been told by them all that they cant give a price until detailed reg's drawings are produced. so they can spec all the requirements and price accordingly, e.g lintels, insulation, etc.

with the current covid saga and the now popular "staycation's", holiday lets are hard to find or are expensive, I could quite happily have a cabin in the woods for a little extra £££ on air b&b. But I think the neighbours WOULD notice that one....
