How deep can I compact stone in one go? Can I do full depth at approx 6-8” all in one go or should I do it in 2 layers? Soft ground.
Wanted to do it in one so I could have all stone tipped in the hole to save shovel and barrow work.

Thanks in advance.

Depends what you're compacting it with, type of material, and what's going on top of the stone when you're done?

If it was a big double drum vibrating roller to make a hard standing, then crack on.
A lightweight whacker plate isn't going to do much to that thickness.

I’ll be hiring a whacker plate. Type 1 kind of stuff. Or more likely crushed brick. Concrete slab to go on top for timber framed work shop. Would you recommend more than 2 layers then?
