    BTU rating

I've got two radiators to replace and have used an online BTU calculator. It gives the following results: Room 1 2350 - 2825 Room 2 1775 - 2125 Both are bedrooms. I'm looking at Kudox radiators through Screwfix as they have a sale (20% off) The single panel type are obviously cheaper...

Skirtings - To Scribe or Not?

Thanks for the advice. I'm assuming you mean a bevel to take into account the board not being exactly 90 degrees to the wall? Or do I have that wrong?

Skirtings - To Scribe or Not?

Well this is my 'effort' As you can see there's lots of daylight getting through. The shop will love me with all the filler I'll need if I scribe

Skirtings - To Scribe or Not?

I definetly have the correct tools: coping saw, files and Evolution sliding mitre saw. I'll give it one more go....

Skirtings - To Scribe or Not?

Thanks to all who've helped thus far. Today has been a nightmare...... My scribing is terrible; no matter how careful I am. In fact I'm finding 45 degree mitres on the internals are lovely and tight, yet if I scribe they are, frankly, rubbish! The other problem is the architrave around the...

Skirtings - To Scribe or Not?

Cheers. it's carpet that's going down so will be tight to the floor then.

Skirtings - To Scribe or Not?

What's the general consensus on fitting the skirting against the floor, or leaving a slight gap for floor movement? It's a 90s house with large sections of chipboard screwed / nailed onto the joists.

That'll be the cats running scared then :D

    Nail Guns

UPDATE: I've decided that the investment on a compressor and gun is probably too much for 3 bedrooms and a hallway in total. So I've managed to hire a Paslode IM250 for a day rate of £24 and purchased 2000 16g 50mm nails and two gas cans for £20.70 delivered. So £44.70 all in. I'll be...

Skirtings - To Scribe or Not?

I did wonder about the grain shrinkage  I'll give the scribe method a go, I have all the tools anyway. Thanks guys.

    Nail Guns

I know where the studs are having stripped the walls back and removing the old skirting. I've marked on the floor where they run. I'm more bothered about cracking plaster if I'm honest. I'd rather not splash cash on unneeded tools as it would be better spent elsewhere.

    Nail Guns

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I'll have a look at the air option tomorrow.

    Nail Guns

My plasterer is half way through skimming two rooms then I'm starting on fixing skirting and architrave. He has suggested laying my hands on a nail gun to make things quicker, and there's less chance of cracking plaster. So looking at hire prices they're not cheap, and the hire depots seem...

    Odd Size Radiators

Thanks. I'm guessing the chrome extension kits do the same thing except they are pre-made and chrome? The other question I have is about TRVs. Currently a fairly new Bosch Worster Greenstar 35i fitted with a Digistat thermostat in the lounge. The lounge radiator just has lock shield valves...

    Odd Size Radiators

Lol, Indeed! I looked at Myson but they don't have the style I (read Mrs) like. The valves measure 25mm from centre of valve/pipe to the thread. Given the pipe centres on the larger panel are 850 this would knock the size down to 800 (25+25) but I'm guessing the pipes would get pulled in...

    Odd Size Radiators

I'm replacing two radiators as they've seen better days (thick with paint etc) However they're an odd size - 640 and 790 wide. Measuring centre to centre of the pipe gives 700 and 850 (ish) respectively. I say ish as the pipes are old and not exactly true. I was considering adding valve...

Skirtings - To Scribe or Not?

Hi all, My first of many posts here I think  I have skirtings and architrave to replace in four rooms. I got a good deal on some Ogee profile material in MDF and bought an Evolution 210 sliding mitre saw also. I have a large selection of other tools. Having only needed to cut 45...
