    Electric socket back boxes

Thanks. I see they are described as surface boxes, but I guess they can be used as back boxes as well? https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/CM1052.html

    Electric socket back boxes

Can I get 25mm deep plastic back boxes? Whilst my living room is striped of plaster to bare brick, Im wanting to fit ethernet sockets on the walls. I have the RJ45 faceplates... I purchased additional 25mm metal back boxes for the R45 faceplates, which match the existing back boxes on my...

    Sealant for stone hearth?

Can anyone recommend a sealant for my new stone hearth please? Thinking of applying a sealant to my newly installed stone hearth. I presume sealing the stone will help prevent it becoming stained from soot & ash from the log burning stove I'm having fitted, whilst also bringing out the colours...

    Sealant for stone fireplace hearth

Can anyone recommend a sealant for my newly installed hearth stone please? Im having a log burning stove installed soon and I was wondering if there are any sealants that might help with cleaning ash from the stone? Thanks

    Making a raised bed

I even put copper piping around the tops of my raised bed frames to deter slugs. I would pretend to visitors that it was a hot water heating system to help the plants grow, with the pipes being plumbed into my boiler. You can see the copper pipes in this photo..

How old is this skirting board?

Thanks, I'm going to do everything I can to refit the skirting, I like keeping things original, unlike the wife who wants it thrown out and replaced with new. The only problem will be if the walls are different dimensions after its been replastered.

How old is this skirting board?

Thanks greeters. I guess if its still made then theres no way of knowing if its original? Might ask some neighbours what they have. If they all have the same then at least I know it an original shape, even if not the actual original boards?

    Edging

I used Everedge steel edging strips which work really well, especially for curved areas. Timber would work well though.

    Making a raised bed

Ive used scaffold plank sized boards from BnQ for raised beds which have been fine. I built them up then hammered stakes into the ground in each internal corner, then screwed through the bards into the stakes. Concrete would last longer for the stakes though and prevent the boards moving over time.

How old is this skirting board?

Anyone know if this skirting is likely to be the original skirting for my 1930's house? Ive had to remove some skirting boards whilst I get a room re-plastered. Some has split during its removal. If the skirting is likely to be original then I'm happy to spend time repairing and repainting it...

    Replace fireplace lintel?

Thanks. I wonder how a concrete lintel could have cracked like that in the first place?

    Rain coming down chimney

Ive removed my gas fire and fireplace, and will probably be plastering inside the fireplace and leaving it empty, don't need a fire in there. Anyway, after sticking my head up the flue I see it goes pretty much straight up so I can see the sky through the chimney pot. I get the occasional drip...

Honey fungus attacking a privet hedge

If you remove the affected parts of the hedge, then make sure you also remove one healthy hedge section ether side of the affected area, just incase the fungus has already spread to them. I have some Armillatox that I used before replacing my privet. It didn't work but maybe I could have...

    Replace fireplace lintel?

Having removed the flaking plaster from my living room walls, Ive discovered that the lintel above the fireplace is cracked. Is it worth getting this replaced before the room is re-plastered, or will it be ok to leave it as its been fine all these years? I've a builder visiting soon to do other...

    Preparing for plasterer

I'll soon be getting someone to re-plaster my living room, using dot n dab plasterboard, with thermal plasterboard on the exterior walls. Ive removed all the existing 1930's plaster that was falling off in places. Under the bay window it was plaster boarded against timber struts. Would a...

Composite front door frame- is this possible?

Thanks. So are there any rules when it comes to choosing which way to hinge a door? The inner front porch door is inward opening and hinged on the right (when looking from outside). I was thinking of having the outer door outward opening and hinged on the right.

    Bi-Fold Doors

Thanks. If going through this again id definitely be out there watching them do the install if possible. Im far from being an expert on the subject, but id definitely have spotted the lack of foam in the voids and the crap brickwork. I didn't oversea the installation, I left them to it. Big...

    Bi-Fold Doors

expressbifolds make you pay up front, with a tiny balance to pay on completion, so they have you over a barrel. My fault for choosing them, never again. They had to return about 5 times, each time they created brand new fukc ups that had to be rectified by yet more incompetent fitters...
