Electrician hoards Picasso works for 40 years

Not at all. You 're barking up the wrong tree completely. There is more OCD among electricians than among decorators. Probably a good thing; you'd want an electrician to be obsessive.

You're confusing Picasso with Matisse. Good lights, though.

I take it all back. Perhaps electricians appreciate aesthetics after all! http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-31995555 (That said, he was dodgy and he did stick the box of priceless drawings and paintings in a corner of his garage fro 40 years).

Best paint for stairs, landing and main bedroom?

Well spotted Mr H! Any cheap, non-vinyl contract matt is what's needed for that - Dulux are doing one at about £14 for 10 litres atm.

Best paint for stairs, landing and main bedroom?

You're welcome. You can always start with a 5 litre can, see how far it goes, then gauge how much more (if any you need) and get a second lot (2.5 or even 1 litre tin). Gowallpaper usually deliver next day if you order in the morning. Delivery is free for orders over £50. Or as dcedc...

Best paint for stairs, landing and main bedroom?

Probably, but for the extra £13 I would get the Intellimatt and have done. Unless you live in a stately home or something, 5 litres will usually be enough for the walls of a HSL. Just do it!

Best paint for stairs, landing and main bedroom?

http://www.gowallpaper.co.uk/little-greene-absolute-matt-emulsion-in-basalt.html (Select 5 litre tin size from drop down menu) The £75 is for 5 litres of the intelligent matt (washable), but you only really need that in kitchens and bathrooms (and possibly high traffic hallways, kids...

    Ideal height for wall lights?

Fear not. The lights are definitely bathroom wall lights and the safety of the electrical installation is not what I was asking about (although I appreciate that it is your comfort zone). And you are assuming that you know where the mirror is going. You don't, and it isn't relevant. Thank...

    Ideal height for wall lights?

I wonder why that has always been your experience of such things. There are roughly equal numbers of male and female designers in the UK, though.

    Ideal height for wall lights?

I agree. Have you ever been asked to fit something that you know will look terrible?

    Ideal height for wall lights?

Thank you. So it's just gut feeling. But do you think you are better at knowing where to position lights than most of your customers, or do you think it is purely subjective? (I am definitely better at choosing colours than most of mine are).

    Ideal height for wall lights?

So include a correction factor. What's the problem? Actually, if the wall were elegant enough to have coving and picture rails, I probably wouldn't be inclined to add the visual distraction of wall lights in any case. I cannot imagine that they would look right anywhere on such a wall...

    Ideal height for wall lights?

No, if I knew the place had been fixed upon according to some objective principle (as opposed to mere whim), I would like it. Honest. What colour car? Black, silver or red. Definitely not sludge-coloured or wishy washy pale turquoise (unless it is an invalid car). What was difficult about...

    Ideal height for wall lights?

@ RF lighting : I am interested to know how you 'know' what the ideal height' is. (instinct? aesthetic theory?)and why, given all the relevant information, you are unable to venture an idea. Fraud, or self-doubt?!

    Ideal height for wall lights?

Why couldn't you try? That's exactly what I was hoping someone would do. I even suggested a formula of my own in the hope someone would agree or disagree with it, but nobody seems to have the confidence to venture an opinion, let alone a theory!

    Ideal height for wall lights?

Right, O Oracle. These wall lights: http://www.diy.com/departments/colours-mizar-chrome-effect-1-lamp-halogen-single-wall-light/589688_BQ.prd on a bathroom wall 2.1 m high and 2.45 m wide. No coving, no picture rail. Where would you put 'em? :D

    Ideal height for wall lights?

On the contrary - I have a very creative and enjoyable life, thank you. :D (Unlike some of the robots on this forum....) Please don't interpret that as 'baiting', though. I have no desire to upset anyone. But ask yourselves : why is it that nobody has been able to answer a question...
