    Dulux fingerprints

1 photo of how paint responds after 1 week of drying when touched with clean hands. 1 photo of what happens if you gently try to wipe off the marks (given that this paint is described as WASHABLE)!

    Dulux paint.....OMG

Dulux emailed and said it's 'wipeable' and needs time to 'cure'. According to Consumer Direct they are tripping over Trade Descriptions Act twice. 1) Because they specifically say 'washable' which is NOT the same as 'wipeable'. 2) There are NO additional instructions on the tin referring...

    Dulux paint.....OMG

Thanks drdec, didn't think it would be as long as 28 days! Have written to Dulux to ask what is wrong so perhaps they'll say that too. If not I've had plenty to say about their 'washable' claim. I know part of the problem are EU 'Directives' - less preservative affected the whiteness...

    Dulux paint.....OMG

Thanks for suggestion Chri5, but definitely not, it had been painted about a week earlier. We waited for new furniture and light fittings to arrive before putting everything up in their new positions. I think it was more like skin moisture marks (dare I say 'sweat') where we had held the...

    Dulux paint.....OMG

We all know there have been problems with Dulux white gloss turning yellow, so I no longer use it. But - I've always used their emulsion, usually the mixer ones and in Vinyl Soft Sheen, which claims to be durable and WASHABLE. Never had a problem before gently wiping off the odd finger...

Can you recommend/suggest a pump for shower?

Ample pressure in our en suite shower to run our thermostatic shower. Just had another one fitted in family bathroom but because of route the pipes have to go it's like showering under a watering can........needs more welly! Clearly need a pump for this one but so many to choose from...

    Leaking shower door

danplumb, you've given a pretty accurate description of where the problem lies - & are dead right! Where the fixing strip comes down (laying against the side wall), there is a tiny gap between the very bottom of it and the tray - which is allowing water to seep through into the wallspace...

    Leaking shower door

Thanks danplumb - sounds (& looks exactly right), the silicone strip running round the 3 sides of the tiling stops when it meets the door framework on left and right side. Though because of 'plumbers' mis-measuring when the cubicle was built, plastered & tiled, the door frame was a hideously...

    Leaking shower door

We have a low rise shower tray in a fully tiled cubicle. The frame of the shower door doesn't seem to be sitting 'tight' enough on the tray. There is a mm or so 'gap' running along the length of the inside between the frame & tray, slightly bigger at either end. There is a silicone 'seal'...

    Removing silicone sealant 'bits'.....

Silicone sealant removal - can pick off the 'ends' and pull, most comes off but still have loads of bitty bits/strips left behind. Short of spending ages picking, scratching and rubbing at it, is there a product which will sort of melt off the remnants? It's in a place which is not going to...

    Blocked sink waste pipe

You're right Hi1, what liquid that we could see WAS only in the 'U'/trap. Plumber promptly stuck a bucket under and undid it. The resulting liquid went all over his hands where he had a couple of cuts! I learnt some ripe swear words as I led him to an alternative water source to wash the acid...

    Blocked sink waste pipe

Wow, that's us done with the dangerous substances. This stuff has been backed up into the sink all night doing it's little volcano bubble every now and again. Finally slipped back down the plughole to about an inch and half between 4.30 and 7 am (the times when I got up to check it, didn't...

    Blocked sink waste pipe

Thanks ChrisR for advice. Decided to resort to sulphuric acid from plumbers merchant as an overnight dose of something less strong shifted it a bit so a full sink of water would empty in 4 minutes instead of the previous 11 1/2! Have been very, very careful with the sulph acid, following...

    Blocked sink waste pipe

Perhaps if I start by saying it is NOT the U bend that's blocked - definitely. Our bathroom sink has virtually blocked a few times over the past couple of years. Water drains slower and slower until it's all but blocked completely. Usually 'fix' it by using a DiY thing like coiled spring...

New bathroom sink waste outlet leaking

Nut so tight, surprised the sink didn't crack! Have since discovered there's such a thing as 'too tight' and could distort rubber washer creating the 'leak'. Anyway, took your advice and tried again (made it about times but what the heck - no point in asking advice if we aren't going to take...

New bathroom sink waste outlet leaking

Fitted new waste outlet to bathroom sink, (the sink has an internal overflow) the inside sink piece has rubber seal (and I've put a bit of extra sealant). Below sink piece has a rubber washer (one side flat and one side domed) and a large nut. Doesn't seem to make a difference which way...
