Moving a light fitting - tell me why I'm being stupid.

Thanks guys for the quick response. Owain, I take on board the point about future limitations and I hadn't thought to use triple and Earth. I'll consider that. Iggifer, I'll try and explain another way - its not always easy on a forum. Currently there is a ceiling rose where you would...

Moving a light fitting - tell me why I'm being stupid.

Hi All, I have an 80's house, with 80's style spot lights pointing into 2no alcoves either side of a chimney breast. I'd like to replace these with wall lights in the alcoves. The floor upstairs is T&G chipboard and I have not intention of disturbing it so I plan to work from below. I'm...

    foil backed plasterboard

Condensation will also form on the coldest surface. I would try to improve ventilation and heating and, as has been said, look at insulation. I think that 25mm PIR board such as celotex can be used for this, if you have sufficient depth in the reveal.

    Re-render advice please

Hi again, a picture as requested. The back of the house has a lot of cracking but the side, which is probably 75% of the area in question, has just 2 damaged areas. The surveyor has said that there are brick string courses that the render has come away from. I think the back catches the...

    Re-render advice please

I’ve not found a definitive answer to my questions through my usual lurking so I’m posting this up. Just in the process of moving house in to a 4 bed semi in Gloucestershire. The place we’re moving to needs some re-rending work. The render to the side and back of the house are cracked and...

Adding a light fitting to an existing fitting – Same switch.

I’m OK with home DIY but I’ve not done this before so would like to check. I wish to add an additional light fitting to an existing circuit, to be operated an existing switch. IE, where currently one light comes on when you flick the switch, I would like tow (or three) to come on instead...

    Single Skin Wall Insulation

Thanks Jeds, good to know I'm on the right track. Hadn't considered the adhesive de-bonding, there's no damp issue at present (but no isulation so.....) but I'll bear that in mind. What is the advantage of the vapur layer over the foil? Or is a a matter of preference? I've not heard...
