    Removing Break Glass Call points

We're moving into a house that was until recently a Residential Home. Consequently it has a Fire Alarm system in place with smoke detectors in every room (except bathrooms) and heat in kitchen and laundry and emergency lighting in relevant rooms. Can anyone advise on the removal of them...

    Shed Prices...

Oxyacetylene cutting torch usually does the trick... failing that a diamond disc'd angle grinder... If that still don't work, call a gaenaecologist...

    Shed Prices...

Plus, your average Joe that walks into B&Q for DIY 'lectrics thinks... aaaaah... get the expensive one, it must be better quality... Long live UK Plc... (as long as the share holders aren't making a profit.....)

Stripped Screw Thread in 13A Wall Socket

secure... I see your point... well presented sir.. I suppose it would depend upon the earthing arrangements on the back of the switch plate...

    Controlable External Lighting

I wonder if "d*ldo shaped" as opposed to p*nile would cause concern??

Stripped Screw Thread in 13A Wall Socket

Or you could "repair" the job... Fill the "hole" with Araldite and redrill using 3.5 mm bit... slightly countersink the hole, and I mean slightly... the new screw will rethread itself... Some might call this "gash", and to some extent I would agree... I suppose it depends on the work...

    Now this is VERY interesting....

Ban, you'll note that there was no terms of reference "with whom" the *ankers are performing their duties... This obviously indicates it took at least two of them to come up with the idea... (no pun intended....)

    Question for all...COSTS

ps... I agree with FWL... a little courtousy costs nothing and earns much... regardless of the "rules", I'd have thought a first time offender might have got at LEAST a quick note on email to save "embarassment" and "hard feelings"??

    Question for all...COSTS

but I suppose that if I posted a link to the site, having no affiliation to such, then that would be OK, as I'm not "advertising" am I? However, that link would probably get removed for collusion... I can't wait for my genetic ID card, with photo, finger prints and credit score on it...

    Question for all...COSTS

Makes sense... one thing I can tell you from a personal perspective though, is that I've spent about 3 months looking for the "right" bits that I want for my house (hence reason for finding the forum in the first place) and I've noticed a distinct lack of "suitability" where products are...

    Question for all...COSTS

I take it your advertising post has been removed... ? Porbably infringes on the "we support Screwflix.corp" element... Open up free trade... prevent censorship... !!

Mounting a socket in a plaster and lath wall

What about using a variable speed jig-saw with a very fine wood cutting (or MDF cutting) blade...?? If it's fresh air behind, should cut fine through the plaster (scoring the outline with a stanley knife first to prevent break away...) As for the lectric fittings... ??

    Question for all...COSTS

FWL... You going to be dealing with HA stuff too or just mainstream electrics?

    Novel Electric Shower

Maybe I'm missing something, sorry... I was playing my "ask the audience" card... I take it I shoulda gone 50:50 with the :!:

    Chasing walls...

Well, it is about 200 years old, so the stanley knife might be an option. It's one of those jobs that HAS to be done IMHO, the wife thinks a bakelight CU is OK... but as I've identified in another post, the four fuses serving the whole house, including electric cooker and shower are just not my...

    Novel Electric Shower

I take it the pump was installed just on the hot side (presumably there was enough head of cold water to provide a comfortable temperature) or was the pump installed between the mixer and shower head?

    Chasing walls...

We're getting somewhere towards organising the day of reckoning, but a question on practicalities... I was considering hiring a wall chaser (with dust extraction), but having never experienced using one and the amount of dust it "might" create, is this the best option and will it be best to...

    Novel Electric Shower

In this vein, I also still find it unusual for NEW homes not to be offered the option of running in at least Cat 5 / telecoms cabling into the main rooms and the telephone socket being put anywhere except in the lounge by the front window (because, of course no-one has DECT / cordless phones in...

    Recommended Suppliers...

I do hope you sold the wife and third child as a packaged "2 for the price of 1" deal, as this really does demonstrate you commitment. Because of this, if you could find the resources, I'll even let you make me lunch every day for the time that you'd be doing the work...

    Extractor fan installation

A mate had a similar "issue" and decided to do exactly as the poster is suggesting... sucking air in using the fan... He had issues!! Lot's of sh*te being sucked in on windy days, being finely shredded by the fan (leaves, paper, etc) which then contaminated his pc's innards... He got...
