Run submerged waterfall pump without water, what will happen

You will destroy the pump bearings. The bearings are nowadays usually ceramic and water lubricated - remove the water and you will be rubbing a steel shaft against a ceramic (stone) bearing.

I just found it on the FAQ section a few minutes before your reply. Thanks for the help. Bernard

    Biasi 28 Combi Pressure.

So, how do I check the pressure vessel ? What should the pressure be ? Am I correct in assuming that I need to repressure it with the CH system pressure at zero ? Tell me please ? :?:

    Biasi 28 Combi Pressure.

My daughter has a Biasi Combi Boiler fitted in a house she has just bought. They will probably change the boiler to a better make, but I would like to get to the bottom of a problem before it is removed. The heating circuit is pressurised to 1.5 bar but constanly increases over a period of a...

Re training as an Electrical engineer???

Nag the company HR department !! That is what they are paid for.!!

    Which drill bit?

At 270 years the house is built of stone I assume. If you are using a battery powered drill then it will really struggle, whether the speeed or the hammer action is the cause I don't know. Best bet is a mains powered drill, preferably SDS. Standard rawlplugs are OK as long if the plaster...

Re training as an Electrical engineer???

Why not ask your companie's HR (Human Recources, Personnell) department . If they are any good then they should have all local college courses at hand.

    BASI s28 COMBI FAULT

Fires up (almost) OK when the Room Stat link is in and the timer switch is on. But that gives CH and HW. With the Room Stat link out OR the timer OFF there is nothing. Previous house owner said the boiler had just been serviced (about a month ago). Seems like the spiders in Wales spin...

    BASI s28 COMBI FAULT

It will not fire up AT ALL, heating (as expected) or HW. Come to think of it, the timer only controls the Heating side and with the faulty timer switch nothing was coming on. Seems like a problem on the HW circuit somewhere as well.

    BASI s28 COMBI FAULT

You have got to remove the link to fit a stat. The stat contacts ON/OFF replace a link ON permanently.

    BASI s28 COMBI FAULT

Hi My daughter has just bought a house fitted with a BASI S28 COMBI Boiler. At some time the time switch broke so they (the previous owners) wisely jammed some chewing gum into the switch to keep the microswitch closed. That is not really a problem. My main query is that if I remove the...

    trimming conifer tree?

Trim it back to about a foot below ground level !! I recently did this with 10 x 40 foot conifers and the results were spectacular. I also had a 6 foot one that was turning brown inside, trinmming only made it uglier - cut down was also the answer there.

    Replacing light switches

The second option. Instead of "C" use L1 OR L2 and then L3 and 4 replace the original L1 and L2

Dimmer switches on when lights in the next room switch off

Try putting a capacitor accross the bathroom light swotch contacts (Maplin SC93B) that should suppress any spike. But it may be that your bathroom light switch is worn and causing unecessary arcing. Try changing the bathroom switch first.

    Gas Earth Bonding (again)

Methinks it is time to close on this post. There are nice guys and there are the dingbats of this world - that is what makes the human race different. Think I will rewire the house after all just for the hell of it. Even be "posh" and put intermediate switching on the landing light...

    Gas Earth Bonding (again)

Not done any tests except for earth continuity between CU and Kitchen. Not much point as the lighting cables are all two core (no earth), the old 3/.036 cables. Kitchen was bult 2 years ago, all granite worktops and stailess steel wall panelling. Looks lovely but a deathtrap. Kitchen...

    Gas Earth Bonding (again)

Sorry if I offended you guys by calling "concentric" cable "coax". As far as I am aware concentric is 2 dimensional and coax is 3. Anyway, I agrre that I am not "competent" as far as the regs are concerned, I have not done any house bashing for many many years, but have been deeply involved in...

    Gas Earth Bonding (again)

As far as I can see at the moment it is an old TT supply. At least it is the old Twin Tails coming in from outside but they have used coax between the main fuse and the meter. The boiler is in an "utility room" at ground level. with facilities for washer and tumble drier.

    Gas Earth Bonding (again)

Hi. My daughter has just bought a house and the electrics are, to say the least, in a mess. Firstly I want to change the consumer unit for a split load job and then sort out the problems from there. As far as I can see there is no earth rod to be seen, so will need to get that sorted. Main...

    piggyback transformer

In electronics testing, troubleshooting and servicing, an isolation transformer is a 1:1 power transformer which is used as a safety precaution. Since the neutral wire of an outlet is directly connected to ground, grounded objects near the device under test (desk, lamp, concrete floor...
