Plaster repairs for Stramit type walls

Thanks, I am not sure that they are Stramit, just that they are of that construction. If there were channels in the boards, how would I go about locating them ?

Plaster repairs for Stramit type walls

Hi, I have some walls that are constructed with 'Stramit' type straw filled partitions, i.e. there is straw sandwiched between two rigid layers of plaster. I need to put some electrics in the wall for lighting and av. Could someone advise the best way to patch up after I have cut out the...

    Raising garden level

Hi All, after having tried all else to increase drainage in my garden (created new soakaway with land drains and all we got was a nice pond at the bottom of the garden !) I have decided to try raising the level by an inch or 2 by adding topsoil and reseeding the lawn. Question is, is there a...

    Rotavation depth

its a clay pipe, and not really sure how it is functional given its depth so far from the house (I would have thought it was going to be a lot deeper). So it looks as though I cannot rotavate the soil then, are there any alternatives ?

    Rotavation depth

Hi All, I am going to be rotavating my garden, but have recently discovered some buried pipe that at point is only a couple of inches from the surface. I suspect that this pipe is a leadoff to a soakaway. Question is, will rotavating my garden smash this pipe ? All help appreciated.....

Dot and dab on straw walls

The internal partition walls in my house appear to be of straw construction, similar to the 'Stramit' type. I wish to improve the sounds insulation of these walls and so is it OK to dot n dab accoustic PB to them directly or is this a silly thing to try to do ? All help appreciated..

    Roof ventilation

I tried that in my designs and the BC office told me no as it requires insultation above the plyboard to be a warm deck... that means refelting the entire flat roof.... I am sure that Ubbink do a flat roof one as that is where my installer got his from. Might be worth a call to them. I...

    insulating garage conversion.

Hi, I converted my garage about a year ago in much the same way as it is a single skin job. Building regs only required 75mm Celotex all round. I used liquid dpm on the walls to prevent any damp and then timber studs with the 75mm Celotex between then PB. Only trouble came with the...

    Upvc window trickle vents

I had the same discussion with building regs officers. Having fitted a window (no vents) which has the option to lock off with a small gap open, they said that it was not against building regs but was against advise from the police if it was on a ground floor window. There was no arguing with...

    Replacing a Potterton 2001 Timer

I am not 100% sure what the setup is, but as I can currently have either hot water, central heating or both on I assume that it is a 3 way job. I just want to be able to time the CH.HW differently as I don't always want to keep the HW on during the winter months where the CH is one more.

    Replacing a Potterton 2001 Timer

I currently have a Potterton EP2001 central heating/water controller, but I want to replace it with one that can control the heating/hot water on seperate timers. I have seen that Potterton do one called the Ep6002 and that it uses a common 'backplate'. Does this mean that I can just take the...

    Flat Roof Ventilation

When converting my flat roof garage into a room I also had to do this to comply with regs. They required at least 50mm clear space between the insulation and the flat roof. To achieve this you need cross ventilation from the front to back or side to side depending on the direction of the...
