    Suspended floor insulation

Hi I am doing the same thing at the moment. All my floor boards are up on the ground floor and I am clearing the crap from under the floor. I have about a 1.5ft gap under the joists which is full of builders crap. If this sand & muck holds water, it will not dry out - especially if your wall...

noise insulation on first floor flat

That will really upset the people below unless you spend a lot on a fully noise insulated floating floor. Someone else should be along to give you the specifics for the insulation. I live in a 1930's flat and the noise transmission is far worse for the people living on the bottom.

    Cooker and garage wiring

Cheers for the reply. The installation for the cooker will drop through the floor from the CU into the 2ft cavity below and then pop up at the cooker. Plenty of ventilation, and minimal bundling. I figured for an 8.8+kw cooker, then 10mmsq & 63a would be best. Hob will be gas. The links you...

    Cooker and garage wiring

Cheers RF I thought welders 'spiked' and needed greater protection. Cheers for confirming. I already have a small splitter box, so will probably keep it seperate from the house supply. Cheers for the reply. Huw

    Cooker and garage wiring

As i'm doing a full rewire on the ground floor, it makes sense for me to plan for the future. Is 6mmsq cable and a 40a breaker enough for future proofing the cooker, or should I put in a 10mmsq cable and 63a breaker? Also, I am going to put in a seperate supply to my garage via a split...

    Plug Socket Heights??

Many thanks for the comments. Will bear that in mind as I'm chasing each position. I'm doing a full rewire to an old house, so not all light switches will be moved, but all the downstairs sockets will be repositioned. Prentice - you were fast off the mark!!!! :D Many thanks Huw

    Plug Socket Heights??

Hi all What are the current height restrictions on plug socket heights? I've been told 450-1200mm from the floor - no exceptions. Is this correct as it seems high. Is it for people in wheel chairs as I can't see it being for any other reason? Thanks Huw

Cheers Freddy - I'm liking the cheaper option loads. Can you recommend a good supplier for the Rockwool and the netting? Thanks Huw

Insulating between joists in suspended floor

I guess i was right on the money. http://www.insulateonline.com/index1.htm?products.htm~main Can anyone tell me where I can get some good value kingspan from? Is it worth getting 75mm? Seems the thermal properties arn't very different between 25mm & 75mm according to that site...

Insulating between joists in suspended floor

Hi I'm doing a load of work on the ground floor - extension, full re-wire, plumbing, so most of the flooring will need to come up. Therefore I am considering insulating as I will be putting laminate flooring down and NEVER want to pull the floor - unless there is a disaster!! What material...

    Finishing edges of wood flooring

I have another question.... In the kitchen, I will have units on all 3 sides. Do you just put the flooring just under the units? This would save me a good few quid in flooring and mean that I can crack on with the kitchen earlier. I supose I need to use the snap lock stuff...

    Finishing edges of wood flooring

Thanks fellas. WoodYouLike - can you point me to any pictures that might show this? It sounds just like what I want to do. Do you do this in front of room thresholds as well? And what about the edges of the architrave (sp?) where you are going around a bit of a corner? I've got a lot...

    Finishing edges of wood flooring

I am going to put engineered wood flooring down on top of a suspended wood floor. The issue is that who ever fitted the skirting boards years ago sat them on the floor. They are painted white. If I fit wood flooring, how can I finish the edges to the skirting?? Do I need to pull all the...

    Underfloor heating??

Thanks Pete That is a good site. Water sounds better, but I have an issue with raising my floor level. I wonder if I could insulate between the joists and then lay heater pipe on top so it sits just under the floor boards. It may not be that effective though. Maybe I could just run the...

    Underfloor heating??

Not sure if this should be in thi section, or Electrics, or Plummbing & Heating, but here goes anyway.......... I am doing a single story extension and knocking a load of walls around downstairs. All the rads are in poor positions, so i was going to re-plumb downstairs as well as move the...
