RCBO sufficient for sub-circuits or is RCD also needed?

I'm interested in all your thoughts, honest. But I think that there are too many words on here (me included) so the essence of this is getting too complicated. Bear with me, at the weekend (power outage Friday because some trees are getting lopped by the electricity board!) I'll knock up the...

RCBO sufficient for sub-circuits or is RCD also needed?

Thanks LoveRocket. If you look at my initial post, you'll see that the feed/cable run to the shed/garage already has overcurrent protection, with individual 6A, 20A and 32A MCBs on sub-CUs in those buildings. Ditto the study feed has a 32A MCB for the sockets (the study lighting is separately...

RCBO sufficient for sub-circuits or is RCD also needed?

Thanks, that hadn't occurred to me but I just had a look, and the meter dates from 1985, and there is no isolator that I can see.

RCBO sufficient for sub-circuits or is RCD also needed?

OK, thanks for all responses. I've decided that the 2 feeds should each have their own separate protection. The downstream sub-circuits are all well protected for overload by MCBs so in theory this just means an additional RCD for the shed circuit, and I'll leave the 30mA RCBO on the study...

RCBO sufficient for sub-circuits or is RCD also needed?

Thanks ColJack, the RCBO is 40A Current Rating with a 30mA Tripping Rating so it should be ok. Thanks. I thought that might be the case - it didn't seem sensible to have both the study (with computer equipment) and the shed on the same tripping device, hence the question. The...

RCBO sufficient for sub-circuits or is RCD also needed?

Moved here last year, adjacent to the main Consumer Unit there is a later Sub-board mini-CU which has a Protek RCBO 40/30B which gives protection to 2 feeds: Feed 1 direct to internal study where there is another mini-CU with isolation switch and 32A mcb protecting computer sockets. Feed 2...

    2 cold radiators

Thanks stem. We've certainly narrowed it down a bit. I'll post again when I get them working again, but that may be a while.

    2 cold radiators

You may well have hit on a contributing cause of the problem. Both the cold rads are off to the side of the main 22mm single pipe (at places where it is vertical), with nearly horizontal 15mm flow and return 'spurs' to the rads. ( All the rads which work sit above the single pipe). If there's...

    2 cold radiators

Thanks stem, that is really helpful. One-pipe is new to me, so I'm learning - good explanation! Pipe warmth: - the main one pipe 'loop' around that part of the house is hot all along its length; - on one of the cold rads the flow 'spur' is hot and the return 'spur' is cold; - on the other...

    2 cold radiators

Moved in during the summer, now the CH is getting used have found that 2 rads out of 10 are cold. System - is fully pumped single pipe (3/4" or 22mm) in older part of house, or twin pipe 15mm in new part. All rads have TRVs apart from the towel rails. Combi boiler ca 8 years old therefore...
