Cannot tighten 2 gang switch to wall

OK my shopping list for today is: Rethreading tool m3.5 Rethreading tool m4 Pan Head Machine Screw BZP M4 x 20mm Pack of 25 First I'll try rethreading at m3.5 with the lugs slightly squeezed into an oval. If that fails I'll rethread at m4 and then use the m4 screws. I'm guessing I'll...

Cannot tighten 2 gang switch to wall

I was going to try squeezing the lug slightly to make it oval so I can cut a thread into it but yeah, I thought the same time thing about cutting a 3.5 thread into a sheared 3.5 hole. It's definitely the lug and yeah, I tried the old screws but same problem. Fine until it starts getting...

Screws are the same as old ones (I kept them). I'll do the rethreading after work tomorrow and report back!

Cannot tighten 2 gang switch to wall

I'll try rethreading tomorrow and see how it goes! I don't think the box is deep enough for the standoff pillars but I'll look into it if rethreading fails. Thanks for advice all, really helpful.

Cannot tighten 2 gang switch to wall

Thanks for quick reply guys. It's definitely not screws as I thought that to begin with and bought a pack of new ones but same problem. The screws basically just slide in and out of holes now (while catching on what little thread is left). They're short enough to not touch back and they are the...

Cannot tighten 2 gang switch to wall

Hi all, just signed up. I've just bought my first house by myself and I'm completely new to DIY and anything involving any kind of tools! I work in IT and have always relied on friends/relatives to help me out but now I have my own place, I want to learn. ANYWAY, I rewired a new 2 gang...
