You'll probably be OK although your tiles do exceed the weight limit for a plasterboard wall. Bal suggest that a 10mm natural stone tile weighs 32 kg per sq/metre + Adhesive of around 4kg per metre. Backer board would be better though

Any areas of board that are getting tiled should be taped and filled with a decent tile adhesive, better than using a jointing compound as adhesive doesn't stick well to it Tank the Shower area with a tanking membrane, do not use a paste on waterproofer like WP1, use Kerdi or Homelux...

3mm isn't a lot, I have known it to be 20mm out when doing knock throughs. Either knock off bonding coat/ sand+cement and redo or as mentioned- just re skim

The only time I would use PTFE tape is if I am changing a rad valve for example and the fitting has had it's neck 'wrung'. I tend to cut the olive off, pop new compression nut and olive on and then a few wraps of PTFE tape around the olive. I always chuckle to myself when I see PTFE around...

All of this could have been avoided if the OP remembered to turn on the flux capacitor on his angle grinder :roll:

Always insulate Plastic, pop as much as you can on, the bigger the better, it's quite amazing how long a Hot pipe can stay hot for when insulated

If you consider that the guys materials might be in the region of £80 + then this leaves £160 Labour. I doubt he would get the work done in a day, he has to screw the existing chipboard down, overboard it with ply, tile a Bathroom floor and then tile a Kitchen floor, then wait 2 - 3 hours for...

Of course it's a fair price, it's better than fair, it's incredibly cheap. I can't even understand why such a low price would even warrant a thread to be started about this, or do you think it's too cheap? I certainly do.
