    BBC Rogue Traders

Lying about how it was compulsory to update. "them {sic} boxes were banned in Jan 2008 mate!, I've got to rip it out, it's the law, gonna cost you £650-750" Crooks, nothing else to say about them - give us honest sparkies a bad name.

    finding good suppliers

It's also worth knowing which have the same parent as well, for example Neweys, WF, Senate, Denmans and Parkers are all owned by Rexel.

    finding good suppliers

Tim, I'm only up the road from you (used to live in LS19, now LS20). Yes, we've a CEF here in Guiseley or down in Shipley but I rarely use them. Over on Gelderd Rd there's Newey & Eyre and Edmundsons. Tend to use Newey's most, it's further to go BUT you can order online and have delivered to...

    Shower pops MCB

Even if he did, he might a) have lied, b) been too stupid to know what is notifiable and/or c) did the work years ago anyway! I rectify loads of "DIY Dennis" jobs and very few are recent - it's wonder some have lasted as long as they have, but there you are.

    When to upgrade Bonding?

When ever I find it missing/insufficient.

    part P fees

Basically either you are a sparky registered with a Part P scheme and can thus "self-certify" via your scheme provider (for a small fee, usually<£5). OR you go via your LABC and pay their inspection fee (somewhere £125-£250) just like a DIYer would have to (if they did notifiable work...

    Retaining Cable Ducting In Wall

Plastic capping (where appropriate) held on with galvanized "clout" nails (the flat head ones for roofing) but not nailed through - the head holds the capping edge down. Saves splitting the capping edge, which happens when you try to nail through it.

    Kitchen Wiring

Well they are OK - provided you don't make any additions/changes. As soon as you do then whatever you do must meet BS7671:2008 and thus almost certainly means changing the CU for one with RCD protection, separated by circuit (i.e. more than 1 RCD or using RCBOs). If you leave it all alone...

Best method for terminating SWA into domestic CU?

Ditto, another vote for the adaptable box.
  10. Y

    What readings should I expect?

Really? - so the lighting "ring" connects all the lights AND returns to the CU? Or does it actually connect all the lights and end at the last (i.e. a RADIAL circuit) In 20+ years as a sparky I have never, ever come across a true ring final for lighting.

Strange Connectors for a Light Fitting - No Screws!

:?: Did you even look at the pictures in the first post. "Good practice but not essential"? Can't but arsed to hunt through the BRB but correct polarity (especially of ES lampholders) IS essential.

    Measuring transformer voltage

Are you measuring the o/p with load (the bulb/s) connected?

Strange Connectors for a Light Fitting - No Screws!

Saintscouple; seeing as it's a screw in bulb (ES), make sure you have the polarity correct when connecting. i.e. put the brown wire in the connector which links to the centre contact.

Strange Connectors for a Light Fitting - No Screws!

Bit narrow minded there! Never used Wagos then? http://www.wago.ltd.uk/ To be fair, the ones on those lights ARE cack!

    High socket for tv

Which will probably need all of those available 40 Amps when in use - if it's a 9kW shower or larger.

How to determine polarity of dead battery

Charger should be 12V - that's what the battery is! Regarding the charging current - theoretically if it was to charge in 1 hour it would need to 2.1A (2100mA), but seeing as it says 8-10 hours then I would suggest either 2100/8 or 2100/10 ~= 250mA or 210mA. What I would say is that the...

    Antsy attitudes

I have no idea what you've written, but I'm sure it will merely confirm that you are right and the rest of the world is wrong, as ever!

    Antsy attitudes

The point I was trying (apparently unsuccessfully) is that he purports to speak with "authority" on a subject he has no training or qualifications in and yet insists we all take his "advice" as "gospel" without question or debate! As someone else said earlier - some like downlighters...

    Antsy attitudes

It ads the evangelical know-it-all to your "ignore list". He was already on mine -he's not even a sparky FFS! Boy does he come out with some ******.
